Union By Pass Contract Employees Attack Town Leader

The Town of The Pas Employees Union attacked Municipal Superintendent Fritz Cameron at a council meeting. Union Local President Archie Jackson and Russ Yachin read unsigned notes claiming contract disputes and accusing town leadership of abuse. Jackson is not a resident. Cameron was absent due to illness.

Wilchowy Opens New Traffic Lights in The Pas

A Tuesday morning ceremony marked the activation of the first traffic lights at Fischer and Third Street in The Pas. Mayor Trager pulled the switch with officers present, and Councillor Alex Wilchowy cut the ribbon declaring the lights in operation.

Mawdesley Wildlife Area Renamed Tom Lamb in Ceremony

The Mawdesley Wildlife Area was renamed Tom Lamb Wildlife Area at a De von Park ceremony at 1 00 PM. Attendees included Lamb family members Mrs Tom Lamb conservationists Mayor Trager MLA Ron McBryde and Bill McLean as master of ceremonies. Ribbon ceremonies and officials from The Pas Wildlife Association and the province marked the tribute to the late Tom Lamb for his pioneering work in north Manitoba. The area spans about 20 townships between The Pas Cormorant and Moose Lake and was established in 1965 as Mawdesley Wildlife Management Area.

Hagborg Construction Reaches 3800 Settlement With Town

The Town of The Pas agrees to pay Hagborg Construction 3800 in an out-of-court settlement. At Court of Queen's Bench Thursday morning the judge entered judgment for 3800 after Evans Premachuk for The Town consented. Hagborg claimed 4600 for gravel work on arena fill. town countered Hagborg failed to meet contract terms.

River Sawmills Suspends 21 Employees Across Operations

Twenty one workers at River Sawmills were notified their employment is suspended until needed. The layoffs affect security, millwright, and office staff, covering the entire workforce as of last Wednesday. The suspension follows the Manitoba Development Fund agreement limiting funds to construction activities, halting operations at the forest complex site from June 4 and stopping the 30 million board foot sawmill for CFI opened in 1968. Construction of River’s 100 million board foot saw is also halted.

Local Truckers Strike Over Indifferences

Trucker workers at the I.R. Trailer Court halted gravel hauling at noon on Friday due to a dispute over supervision and equipment. The Herald notes funds were promised for the trailer court, with about 50,000 dollars provided by DREE and 100,000 dollars from the LA Indian Band and Manitoba Development Fund. Instead of cash, DREE offered supervision and equipment, including a Winnipeg gravel loader and a supervisor, amid ongoing quarrels.
