Nickel Mine Project Near Thompson Deepens Despite Sludge Challenge
In 1967 Jerry Marshall, 27, planned open pit work at Pipe No. 2 near Thompson Manitoba. 15,000,000 cubic yards of muskeg overburden must be removed by flooding into sludge pumped at 35,000 gallons a minute, using a dredge on 95 flat cars. Other sites include Pipe No. 1 Soab South Soab North Birchtree and the Thompson main shaft nearing 4,000 feet.
