Vote Rules For The Pas Mayoral Election In 1969

Voters must be Canadian citizen or British subject, at least 21, reside in The Pas before April 22, 1969, and may vote for mayor and three councillors for a two year term plus one councillor in a by election. Election day is October 22 with polls 9 AM to 6 PM at Nor Lite Hall and Elks Hall.

Airport Terminal Plan Cut In The Pas

The Pas faces budget cuts as federal spending for a new air terminal is slashed. Plans by the Department of Transport for a 1970 start and an estimated 450000 dollar terminal, intended to double facilities, are postponed four to five years. Airport manager Bill Scales notes passenger volume rose about 33 percent over three years.

About 100 walkers joined the Rotary Club event to fund a new museum. Collections tally shows $3,500 raised so far, with roughly 20 percent of participants yet to submit their contributions.

Carey Meets Schreyer and Pawley

Dr. Stu Carey met with Manitoba Premier Schreyer in Winnipeg to discuss tax incentives for the The Pas forestry complex development. Premier Schreyer Tours The Pas Forestry Complex

Premier Ed Schreyer visited The Pas on Monday October 6 and toured the forestry complex north east of town. A TransAir charter brought 27 business executives from Europe, Canada and the United States for meetings arranged by Mr. McBryde. Dr Carey noted only Churchill Forest Industries has a tax incentive agreement. four other local firms have no agreements, suggesting The Pas could negotiate tax terms with them. River group firms were among those mentioned.
