The Pas Rotary Club heard pool chairman Harold Grundy announce the indoor pool is scheduled to open mid November with the deck poured and north wall enclosed. A $2,500 grant was presented to Grundy as the club’s first half of a $3,600 pledge.
Shell Canada Ltd donated 1 806.06 to the indoor pool fund as the second major company to contribute. The luncheon featured Shell sales agent Mr Hogue and public relations representative Claude B Main, with Gulf Oil still unconfirmed.
Witness Ausbern described a near collision as trains paused at crossings in Ravehill. He questioned why cars backed up toward the waffle lights on Fischer Avenue and suggested sending the issue down the line.
Bacon new manager of the Canada Manpower Centre at The Pas will arrive October 17 from Portage la Prairie where he led the centre for two years. He succeeds William Loeppky recently named northern Manitoba area manager for Manpower and Immigration. Bacon is a Westlock Alberta native with a bachelor of arts from the University of Alberta and joins the federal public service in an active community role.
The Kelsey School Division No 45 expands to include more elementary and high school facilities for student programs and community group use in The Pas area. Available venues include gymnasiums art rooms seminar spaces and other rooms for after school and weekend activities at Kelsey Elementary and Mary Duncan Elementary amid a surge in community access plans.
The Pas Women s Musical Club met on September 21 with President Margaret Toews presiding. The new executive includes Vice President Susan Pentelichuk Secretary Marie Leckie and Treasurer Sarityt Frigsen. A five concert season emphasizing arts, including a November program on Canada s ethnic heritage with community performers Pas Glee Club and Pas Girls Choir.
Municipal Affairs Minister Howard Pawley clarified provisions of the School Tax Reduction Act. Benefits apply to all persons renting dwelling units with a normal contribution to school taxes. The explanation confirms the act’s intent and scope.
Manitoba clocks revert to standard time at 8 a m on October 23. Under the Official Time Act of 1967 daylight saving runs from the last Sunday in April to the last Sunday in October with clocks moving back to 2 a m.
The Town Detachment of the RCMP reports a rise in vandalism from September 18 to October 12 with 16 incidents, mostly involving juveniles. Two suspects are adults, several cases unsolved, and some juvenile charges were handled non judicially with probation oversight and child welfare involvement.
Ken Fort manager of Dairy Queen in The Pas says he is discouraged by recent events at his premises. Three weeks ago a new refill coffee cup with a plastic holder was introduced to please customers though it increased costs. The note implies customer reaction influenced the change.
Voters show little engagement as three council seats come up for grabs. Five candidates announce bids including incumbents Bert Hayes and Johny Sokuisla and challengers Don Trotter Eddie Sawals Steve Anaka and Walter Krivda. Anaka and Sawals mount first campaigns while Krivda seeks a third bid after prior runs in by election and last October.
Four polling subdivisions will operate in the October 25 civic election at BIis Hall Nor Lite Hall and Keewatin Community College. Polls open 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. An advance poll runs October 20 21 23 at the Municipal Office with hours to 9 p.m. Sick voters may vote by mail with seven days notice to the returning officer Tony Moule.
