The Herald outlines altered deadlines for the October 18 issue due to the Thanksgiving break. News must be in by Friday noon. display and classified ads close at 10 30 am Tuesday. Advertisers are urged to deliver copy Friday afternoon. The Herald will be closed Monday October 11 for the holiday.
A public works spokesman cites troublesome boilers as the cause of visible black emissions escaping from a provincial office boiler plant. Residents report the sooty substance recently and hope for a solution this week as a boiler expert investigates.
Mr. Alan Finnbogason president of the Tourist and Convention Association of Manitoba Inc announces six Manitobans will receive Good Citizenship Awards for exemplifying a life that helps make Manitoba a better place to live. Chief Gordon W. Lathlin of The Pas Indian Reserve is among the six. CONT D ON PAGE 4.
October 27 civic election in The Pas to choose a Mayor and three Councillors from 4487 eligible voters. Incumbent Mayor Harry Trager seeks a renewed term, while challenger Jack Kennedy, Gulf Oil agent and farmer, argues for change and new blood.
John Bodnar finds natural gas on his Carrot Valley Road property two miles west while building a new home. International Pipeline drills a well to 190 feet producing clear water and a gas show. A gas outlet was lit in Bodnar’s living room, with leaks nearby and the Water pours into a ditch as efforts to control the gas continue.
According to last weekend’s release there will be no election in the Kelsey School Division where four board seats have expired. Marg Effler and Frank Parker Jr have both decided against running again. Effler withdraws for personal reasons.
