Five escapees from Pas Correctional Institute face charges and sentences
Court heard September 24 that one of five inmates who escaped on September 17 remains charged with escaping lawful custody. Jeffrey Houdle, 17, of Swan River, was sentenced to two years in Manitoba Penitentiary at Stony Mountain after being tried as an adult on adult charges. he had three escapes in six months. Two others have cases remanded while two remain at large. He had already served 38 months in jail consecutive to prior time.

Two Accidents Near The Pas Leave One Horse Dead
Two vehicle incidents occurred on September 25 near The Pas. At 8:05 a truck driven by Neil Graham rolled on Highway 10, burning and write‑off with minor injuries to the occupant. At 10:05 a horse darted into an Ontario car driven by Morris Huculak causing about 300 dollars in damage. the horse, owned by Ernie Constant, died.

School Board Gets Improvements OK at Two Sites
The Kelsey School Division received approval from the Public School Finance Board to fund outside work at Margaret Barbour Collegiate and Scott Bateman sites costing 43,364 dollars. The package includes roads bus loop sidewalks and berming. An extra two parking stalls were not approved. A separate 16,000 dollar foyer addition on the east side of Margaret Barbour Collegiate was also approved to aid student and community access for shops pool use and bus loading. Scott Bateman Junior High is progressing with Graham Construction starting exterior siding and interior insulation as plans move forward.

Rifle Range Feasibility Considered By The Pas Group

Fire destroys Rahl's Island home on Mile 6
A fire on Rahl's Island last Sunday gutted a house at Mile 6, owned by Larry Steele of The Pas, with about 17500 in damages. About 60 cottage owners from Clearwater Lake formed a planning group at the Friendship Center last Thursday to inaugurate a Campers Association for the 300 cottages. They named a six member negotiating committee to present a nine member executive drawn from three areas Long Point Campers Cove to The Airport Hi Johnsons Point and Pioneer Bay. The top issue raised by each area was summer maintenance and access roads, not the highway.

Teen Thief Apprehended After High Speed Chase
A 13 year old youth from Young's Point Bay was arrested by R C M Police after a country high speed chase on September 27. The joyrider took a car owned by Jack Berg of 320 Keewatin Street The Pas, parked behind Berg's Foodmarket the night before the chase with the keys inside and doors unlocked.
