Visitors Day will be held in The Pas Schools on Monday afternoon starting at 2 00 p m Principals and teachers will be available to meet with parents to discuss their child s work If parents cannot visit on Visitors Day they should arrange a visit another time convenient for them to become better acquainted with the teacher and school work
Premier Duff Roblin will stop in The Pas at noon Saturday for a formal free Coffee Buffet at the Legion Hall hosted by the Progressive Conservative Association. The event runs 12 noon to 1 15 PM with a casual dress code and an informal meet and greet.
The Pas Curling Club announces a 24 hour Trappers' Festival bonspiel from Friday midnight February 22 to Saturday midnight February 23. Limited to 32 rinks with a $20 entry per rink. Prizes: $175 and $125 in the first event. $125 and $75 in the second. Phone entries to Ed or Len Engen.
The Lido Theatre’s appeal to reduce its 1963 assessment due to lost business from television was denied by the Town Council. Town assessor John Dentinick prepared a proposed 26 percent drop from 41 350.00 to 30 000.00 but could not substantiate it beyond a few similar cases.
The Pas To suspend downtown parking meters for the winter effective December 1. Town Council voted last Wednesday to keep meters off streets through the season starting this Saturday.
The Boy Scout Association will hold its annual meeting in the United Church basement on Thursday November 29 at 8 00 p m. Election of officers will be held and all interested Scouters are welcome. A get together after the meeting will be at Bob s Dining Room Cambrian.
Huskie Hockey Club officials announce the CRVHL opener in The Pas on December 8 against Nipawin Hawks is postponed. The club seeks to avoid conflicting with Lions Charter Night guest speaker Stephen Juba of Winnipeg. Sunday game stands. December 8 will be rescheduled.
Ben Profit of The Pas is named to Manitoba Welfare Advisory Committee replacing Eric Keddie who resigned before retirement and left The Pas.
The Advisory Committee met in Winnipeg with members from across the Province. It studies Children's Aid matters and acts as an appeal board on social welfare cases.
Two days after the live Grey Cup broadcast, CBC will show a kinescope of the game in The Pas Monday December 3 from 5 to 9 30 pm with a 6 30 pm rebroadcast of the game. The BBG ordered CBC to carry the program in the national interest despite sponsor messages. Local fans plan to travel to Swan River and Dauphin to watch the game live this Saturday.
About 250 people attended the opening of the Ukrainian Catholic Parish Hall on First Street built in four months by volunteers from the parish. The two storey hall was unveiled after a ribbon cutting by Tony Zukiwich and officials including Hon. Jack Carroll and Mayor Harry Trager.
Doris Cheslock of The Pas announces her candidacy for 1963 Fur Queen at a Holy Ghost Parish dinner. She is a Provincial Welfare employee and Ukrainian Catholic Church member sponsored by the Ukrainian Catholic Church Young Peoples. The Pas Curling Club backs four local candidates in the runoff.
The Town of The Pas asks Clearwater to consider converting part of Clearwater Lake Hospital into a nursing home. A council resolution introduced by Councillor Audrey Batchelor cites urgent northern Manitoba need from Swan River north. Facilities already exist at the Clearwater Lake Hospital.
The Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church will dedicate its new church this Sunday December 2 at 10 a.m. The building was formerly Hudson's Bay House in The Pas at the foot of Fischer Avenue near the Saskatchewan River. Rector Very Rev Aponnik of Flin Flon will conduct the service. A Parish Dinner follows at 12 30 in the Legion Hall.
Mayor Stephen Juba travels by car from Winnipeg to The Pas with two days planned for the trip. He will be guest speaker at The Pas Lions Night event.
Mayor Juba will depart Winnipeg on Thursday December 6 and visit communities along the route to The Pas to promote the Trappers Festival. Lions Charter Night tickets are on sale for Guy Hall events with a 6 30 reception, 7 dinner, and 9 30 dances. Contact a Lions member or Doug McBride for tickets.
