Heard Legion in The Pas elects fifth-term president

Jack Heard was re elected president of The Pas Branch Royal Canadian Legion for a fifth term last Thursday. The new executive includes Tack Heard as president and Jack Carter as election officer with many new faces joining. a lunch followed the meeting.

Lido Theatre to Close for Alterations. Santa Visit Planned

Paul Rivalin owner of the Lido Theatre announces a December 2 1964 closure for renovations. Santa Claus will visit on December 23 at 2330 with the Elks, giving free treats to preschool children accompanied by parents at the theatre. Further renovation details will follow.

50 Year Membership Award Presented to Bill Crabb

Mr Bill Crabb of Swan River and formerly of The Pas became the second Canadian to reach 50 years with the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees of the CNR He joined in June 1913 at Baden Manitoba started in Birch River and Kenville then served as section foreman at The Pas until retirement in 1948 Attendees included Joy Colgan and her husband Bud.

Ralph McLean Dies in Winnipeg Hospital at 51

Ralph McLean died last Saturday at Winnipeg General Hospital at age 51. The Dauphin native leaves a wife Elsie four sons Garry Bill Bruce and Jack a daughter Joyce and three brothers George Jim both of Dauphin and Bill of Whitehorse. He worked in road work and excavations, began his career in Dauphin, joined The Pas Rotary Club, enjoyed hunting fishing and bridge, and a funeral is planned for Thursday with two friends from The Pas chartering an aircraft to attend.

Shared Services Brief on Sacred Heart Teacher Payments

The Winnipeg School Board presented a brief to the Special Legislative Committee on Shared Services led by Jack Kennedy and others. Herman McKinnon announces the directors approved the appointment of J Caverly as Manager of Transport Limited with head office in The Pas and branches at Snow Lake Chisel Lake and Ilford. Caverly’s background includes garage and farm implement work and ten years managing Community Hotel chain properties in Manitoba. McKinnon, with the company over 40 years, takes a year’s leave. he and Mrs McKinnon will winter in southern California.

Recreation Meet Dec 4 To Reorganize The Pas Committee

A meeting of all those in The Pas interested in physical education is set for Friday night December 4 at 8 p.m. in the Board Room of the Provincial Building to re organize The Pas Fitness and Recreation Committee. The group was formed about a year ago to screen local grant applications for Manitoba Fitness and Amateur Sports Branch funds. Loss of original members due to transfers creates a need for a new committee as local groups with related interests prepare to continue.
