Year Round Parking Meters Proposed by City Council

He proposes meters stay in effect through winter and funds be used to keep streets sanded and snow removed. Big Fire No Water Hits The Pas Service House

The Town of The Pas faced water shortages as a furnace fire at Carnegie's Service on Fischer Avenue South was fought with limited municipal water. Fire Chief Tom Earley noted the main pump failed, hampering suppression though damage remained minimal.

Two local shops set to open December 1 in the new shopping plaza. Union Sup ly Company becomes Union Fashions offering similar apparel at Edwards Avenue and Third Street. Henry and Belle Waller will open their second jewelry store, adding to their Second Avenue location.

Pas Chamber dinner mislabels cable TV proposal

The Pas Chamber of Commerce dinner featured Pat Ferg who said the plan was not for cable television but for a northern viewing choice. He praised The Pas as gateway to the North and joked about funding while noting local issues from Bodnar nets to street lighting, with continuation on page 14.

Town Council Adds Town Manager and Merges Inspector Posts

The Town Council decided to hire a Town Manager and combine the license and building inspector roles into a single position. The two new posts were approved at the regular meeting last Wednesday and will be advertised locally and in Winnipeg Regina and Saskatoon newspapers. Negotiator Stan Reid from The Pas will liaise with Local Union No 745 for a new contract.

Business Management Course To Be Completed Monday

A one day program on important aspects of business management will be held in The Pas to complete the Business Management Program launched earlier this year by the Manitoba Institute of Management under the direction of the Regional Development Branch of the Department of Industry and Commerce. Co operating in the effort will be Norman Regional Development Corporation and The Pas Chamber of Commerce. The program will be held on Monday November 29 1971.

Opening Ceremonies At The Bay And MacLeods At The Pas

About 500 people attended the ribbon cutting for The Bay and MacLeod’s in The Pas. Mayor Jack Kennedy and Jim Doucette led the ceremonies welcoming the new stores and praising local growth. Garth Cowie and Pat Maffenbeier introduced store managers and voiced pride in joining the community.

First Report Cards Friday for Three Elementary Schools

The first set of report cards for Kelsey Opasquia and Sacred Heart will be handed to students on Friday November 26. Parent teacher conferences follow on Monday November 29 in the afternoon and evening at each school. Parents may call the office to arrange appointments to see teachers or the principal.

Town Council Forms Citizen Committees In The Pas

At the last regular meeting the Town Council approved two citizen committees to assist on town matters. The elected slate led by Mayor Jack Kennedy and Councillors Fasano Gelowitz and Mc Bride urged broad citizen involvement to keep council informed of local happenings. A delegation attended the inaugural meeting.

Phone Expansion Underway in Wabowden Exch

Manitoba Telephone System Northern Manager Fred Maher announced a telephone project in Wabowden to add capacity for growth. The extension to the Wabowden dial equipment will serve mining operations and area demand, with completion planned for early next year. The exchange currently serves about 226 telephones.
