New Manitoba Mill Drives Jobs and Exports Despite Finances
The Pas forestry complex, a $100 million project largely funded by the Manitoba Development Fund, operates as a going concern with 800 workers. It plans to raise annual sales to about $25 million next year, produces pulp, paper, and lumber, and sells in the U S and Canada through Price & Pierce, Consolidated Bathurst, and MacMillan Bloedel. Receivership and management by Stothert Engineering oversee the site, while outside contracts support local firms like Arnold Brothers Transport, William Rawson, and Mayers Packaging. The project boosts Manitoba shipments, contributing to a rise in provincial pulp and paper output.
