Special Clinic Dates for Disabled Children In Manitoba

Special diagnostic clinics for physically handicapped children were held in Flin Flon on May 29 30 at the Northern Health Unit. Upcoming clinics are listed for The Pas and Swan River with mornings only sessions. About thirty children will be reviewed in Flin Flon twelve at The Pas and forty at Swan River with some already in care of Manitoba Society for Crippled Children and Adults.

The Pas and District Farmers Association asks Minister Burtniak to fix Highway 283 linking Manitoba to Saskatchewan. They cite dust from increased traffic harming crops and homes, urge pavement to Hudson Bay route, and warn of further action without action. Copies were sent to The Pas Chamber of Commerce Town Council and MLA Ron McBryde.

Direct Distance Dialing Expands to The Pas on June 13

The Pas customers will join Direct Distance Dialing on June 13 with a ceremony at 10 a.m. officiated by Ron McCryde. Peter Burniak announced residents can dial most North American and Hawaii long distance stations. some calls still require operator assistance. The Pas is the second community north of the 43rd parallel to adopt the system, following Winnipeg and Thompson precedents.

Philip Derion Receives Special Award At Blues Wind-Up

Philip Derion was honored with a special award at the Blues wind-up banquet held Friday in the basement banquet room of a local hotel. The Pas Blues and friends celebrated a successful hockey season with guests including Recreation Director Walter Nowell of the Manitobs and The Pas Huskies team. Ticky King presented the trophy for Derion’s faithful service to The Pas Reserve Blues Hockey Club as Derion plans retirement. Chief Gordon Lathlin praised the team’s efforts at the event.

Rodeo-Fair Dates Set for August 6 and 7 at The Pas

The Pas and District Exhibition Association announced the seventh annual Rodeo to be held August 6 and 7. An added show ring behind the grandstand will host local horse demonstrations led by Mammoth Palace Dave Bown, aiming to boost youth showmanship and develop a Rodeo-Fair event.

Stanfield Tours Northern Manitoba Stop At The Pas

Honorable Robert Stanfield made a brief stop in The Pas on the first leg of a Northern Manitoba tour. About 200 townspeople gathered at the shopping plaza mall to greet Stanfield and Bud Simpson. Simpson visited Legion clubrooms to meet Legionaires. Deputy Mayor Doug McBride and Chamber of Commerce president Jim Doucette welcomed Stanfield at the mall.

Electrical Malfunction Triggers Townwide Water Outage

Town engineers report an electrical short at the deep well caused a water shut off for the town. Water returned by 8 10 am after a brief 15 minute restart during reservoir changes with manual pump activation restoring service quickly.

Hair Cut Prices Rise In The Pas

Two barber shops in The Pas raise prices for boys and men due to longer hairstyles. Ken Haynes of Ken's Barber Shop says the hike is the first in three years and necessary for modern cuts with sideburns and special styling. Continued on page 4.

Trappers Festival Tea Batch Delights Outdoor Writers

Jerome Knapp, Charles Jeliott and Patti Lohr sample tea after a tea boiling contest at the mini Trappers Festival. Local participants impressed Outdoor Writers of Canada during their annual convention in The Pas over the long May weekend 1922, with Bill Robinson of Neepawa as convention chairman noting eastern visitors enjoyed the event.
