The Legion begins a 16000 extension to the Royal Coon Branch Club Rooms at The Pas with a 35 by 40 foot addition and basement. Plans include two war memorial cairns in Devon Park and a dedication during Anniversary celebrations.
David J. Winton and Mrs. Winton inform Mayor Tr of a visit to The Pas this August for the Anniversary celebration. Correspondence from Minneapolis lists Mr. Winton and Mr. George White as attendees. The Winton name is linked to The Past and the old stern wheeler David Winton, with a song by Peggy Devern and an Anniversary crest by Bill Morrish.
The Pas marks 50th Anniversary of Incorporation August 24 25 26 with northern Manitoba celebrations. The Rotary Club has issued up to 300 invitations but believes many former residents remain uninvited despite tips from local friends and relatives.
The scene features Mr. John Hamm at Frechette's Dairy overseeing quarts of Frechette's Milk emerging from the PURE PAK machine. The process includes waxing, filling, and sealing cartons before packing for distribution. June is Dairy Month highlighting the local dairy industry.
John Frechette, plant manager, oversees a modern high temperature short time pasteurization line at Frechette's Dairy. The family operation started in 1916 with two cows and now runs from its third building with wide distribution across northern Manitoba.
The Past 50th Anniversary Committee plans a 100 page historical booklet for Winnipeg to celebrate August 24 25 26. The project aims for a lasting keepsake with a $5000 cost estimate. Merchants are urged to buy space to feature their history in pictures.
The Progressive Conservative Association opens daytime committee rooms on Edwards Avenue across from the Lido Theatre in The Pas. A public meeting is announced for Monday June 11 in the Anglican Parish Hall with speakers Hon Sterling Lyon Manitoba Attorney General and Mr Simpson.
A survey dated May 1 shows 82 of 120 water and sewer services are not connected to the town system. In 1961 about 122 units could be hooked up. 40 were connected last year, reducing night soil and water delivery. Of the 82 remaining, 29 are rental units. Town Council continues planning to complete hookups.
Northern Manitoba centers will mark the 50th anniversary of provincial boundary extension to the 60th parallel with government ceremonies and local events. Lieutenant Governor Errick F. Willis will visit about ten small centers starting August 20, then join officials for tours of Lynn Lake Flin Flon Thompson Churchill and The Pas on August 23.
Fred Kerr of The Pas seeks at least one authentic birch bark canoe for an August Anniversary crafts display. He will purchase a canoe if offered and will buy additional canoes if more than one is provided.
The Kinettes present a Tea and Tot N Teen Fashion Show this Saturday afternoon from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Legion Hall. Del Mar's Tot N Teen Wear helped arrange the event and a group of young models includes Patti Barry Ricky Hanover John Lamb Tannis Lamb Kelly Goldstrand Brenda and Patti Carter.
