TeePees Open Polar League At Home This Sunday

The TeePees defend their title opening the season with a double header at 1 PM and 4 PM against the Flin Flon Cardinals. A fifth team joins the league, the Thompson squad, expected to be strong. The team travels to Thompson on June 13 with about 1,000 fans anticipated per game. Several of last year’s starters are missing.

Seed plant and elevator project to boost farming industry

Prince Albert promoter Art Beck announces a $105000 seed plant and elevator project with The Pas Seed Co. Ltd. forming to fund and operate. The Pas residents receive priority share options while a $45000 loan backs the venture. Beck keeps a $15000 stake as construction targets June start for a fall season launch.

Bedding Plants Thrive as The Pas Develops Local Industry

Harry Vandenbogerd, a Dutch immigrant who settled near The Pas in 1949, expands a bedding plant operation on 22 acres. In three years he has doubled production yearly, expecting 22 000 plants this season, with shipments to Snow Lake Flin Flon and Thompson. His 75 by 16 foot greenhouse houses 65 varieties including 11 petunia types and 4 snaps.

Lawrence Whitehead Named Executive Director of Friendship Centre

The Pas Indian and Metis Friendship Centre Board unanimously approved Lawrence Whitehead as Executive Director at a special meeting held Friday May 21 1965. The appointment is effective immediately and marks the first Cree Indian ancestry citizen to hold the post locally.

Former Police Chief Honored At Dryden

Ed Rogers former police chief of The Pas was honored in Dryden Ontario after a five year term as that center's Chief of Police. Dryden Town Council and municipal heads hosted a dinner in his honor as he retires. The Rogers visited The Pas last week and will settle at Victoria Beach.

Night Prowl By Poundkeeper Ends In Dog's Death

A three year old black Labrador retriever used for hunting was killed last week in The Pas after being shot around 10:30 PM with a tranquilizer gun. Owner Charlie Morrish of 708 Taylor Avenue alleges the town dog catcher was responsible. the town does not deny the claim.

The Anglican Church at The Pas marks its 125th anniversary with a weekend program on May 29 and 30. Christ Church The Pas the Church of the Messiah and the Redeemer host registrations, luncheon with dignitaries, guided tours by Kelsey Bus Lines and The Pas Chamber of Commerce, and informal gatherings.
