Town Council Meets After Court Quashes Meat Plant Plan

Special council session called for seven tonight to review a judgment by Justice J Hunt quashing two 1969 resolutions that allowed sale of land for Porky Packers meat packing plant on the south end of town off Highway 10. Four of six councillors expected. Kennedy and Tawse involved in the case.

Mr and Mrs Jim Doucette residents above Gateway Drugs on Fischer Ave report a 22 long calibre bullet struck their living room window at 1230 AM last Thursday night. Two Winnipeg business associates were present as RCMP investigate and a discarded 22 shell was found near an incinerator behind a TD bank across the lane.

Dental Shortage May Be At End In The Pas

A Birmingham dentist will visit The Pas next Monday to assess the local shortage. The trip is linked to missionary health work by the provincial department of health. An official from the department has already scouted the situation and will facilitate meetings with town officials and the medical profession.

Vandals Fire Boat At Saskatchewan River Wharf

Vandals set a boat named Mindy J on fire at the Saskatchewan River wharf east of The Pas causing estimated damage of 3500 to 5000 dollars. The incident occurred last Thursday evening around 6 30 P M and was seen by seed mill workers. The six cabin boat with wheel house and galley belonged to Keystone Fisheries and was recently sold to Lake Winnipeg Navigation and was to be moved to Cedar.

Unrehearsed Fire Alarm Demonstration At Clinic

Passers by feared an opening ceremony outside the Associate Medical Clinic Building in The Pas. A quick search of the building found smoke from a backfiring heating system triggering the fire alarm, prompting evacuation except for staff and the administrator.

Pas Ukrainian Centennial Celebrated With Cultural Day

The Pas Ukrainian Centennial Committee plans a Cultural Day on Saturday May 28 featuring a tea and bake sale at Norlite Hall 2 6 p.m. with Ukrainian specialties and crafts on display. Ukrainian ladies in traditional dress will serve tea and a spinning wheel demonstration will be held. An evening performance is set for the Margaret Barbour Collegiate Auditorium.
