Highway Traffic Act Revised Sets New Road Safety Rules
The Highway Traffic Act is revised with pedestrian corridors to cross streets by arm signals at designated spots. School zones see reduced speeding after an education program. Grants fund driving training and instructors. Farm tractors exempt from motor vehicle registration. 12 passenger school buses get better lighting. Turn signals become mandatory for 1958 onwards vehicles. A single highway traffic and motor transport board is created. Go carts may be refused registration for highway hazards. Vehicle registrations for under 18 require two parental approvals. The revision follows a two year legislative study on highway safety.
