Principals complain about dog issue at The Pas schools
The Herald found Kelsey Elementary principal Vaughn Wadelius tying dogs to a post outside the entrance. He has tied up at least ten dogs since September and reports six were picked up by the dog catcher while others chewed free. Opasquia Elementary principal Don Woloshyn notes a daily pack of seven dogs with several stragglers, a kindergarten pup knocked over by a German Shepherd, and fears of serious harm as spring nears. Superintendent Harold Grundy shares concern, citing two or three minor incidents this term and warning of potential mauling.

Arson Attempt At Fenner's Plumbing and Heating
Thieves burglarized Fenner's Plumbing and Heating Wednesday morning and started a fire after removing a cash drawer. Fire Chief Tom Earley reported glass in the front door kicked in and a chair leg burned. An alarm was set off at 3 30 a.m by a taxi driver who used snow to extinguish the flames before the department arrived. The incident prompted notes on a planned new fire hall and phone system to serve forty volunteer firefighters.

Carey Wins Manitoba Free Skating Championship
Murray Carey aged 14 captured the Manitoba Free Skating Championship in the Juvenile Men's Division at Portage la Prairie on Saturday. He defeated seven competitors, having previously won a Brandon event in the same division. Carey is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Stu Carey, formerly of The Pas, now living in Thompson.

McKenzie Appointed Counsellor for Metis in The Pas
Murray McKenzie executive director of The Pas Northern Manitoba Metis Federation is named Counsellor for Metis people in The Pas with Churchill Forest Industries. Appointment confirmed February 15. Students present March of Dimes cheque at assembly
John Kobar of Kelsey Elementary School presents a March of Dimes cheque to Rotary president Al Hillsden as Principal Vaughn Wadelis looks on. Campbell Draws One Year's Probation For Theft
Ernest Campbell of Flin Flon was placed on one year's probation in Magistrate's Court after admitting theft of six mink and one otter pelts valued at least fifty dollars. RCMP reported pelts were sold to Roger's Furs in The Pas and Campbell confessed after staff identified him. He said he has a long history of offenses and rehabilitation attempts since 1965.

New Dentist To Join The Pas Clinic
