Lt Bent Hougesen to Leave The Pas This Month

After three years in The Pas as Commanding Officer of the Salvation Army Corps, Lt Bent Hougesen receives farewell orders and is transferred at month end. He arrived in June 1963 after training in Toronto and has helped grow local youth work including a 37 piece Youth Brass Band and the hall renovations. A farewell meeting is Sunday June 26 at 7 00 PM at the Canadian Legion Hall before he moves to Toronto to study medicine and pursue a future mission field.

MBCI Awards Students of Margaret Barbour Collegiate

The award presentation featured a lawn barbecue gift to Pat Claggett as a student body tribute. MECI Athletes of the Year were Betty Eidle and Clinton Rivalin. The 1966-67 student executive council was elected, led by Roger Barley as president and Valerie Tadda as secretary. Merit crest winners included Charles Meadwell Aaron Berg Clinton Rivalin Louise Rivalin Judy Roche Karen Kolodinsky Rosalind Ridings with several names listed as absent.

Lions Monster Bingo in The Pas Saturday Evening

The Lions Club of The Pas hosts a Monster Bingo this Saturday June 18 with 15 games totaling 1000 dollars in prizes and Game 15 offering 500 dollars. Advance tickets are on sale at 2 dollars each with a 25 dollar door prize for advance holders. proceeds support the Lions sponsored swimming pool. Game time is 8 PM.

Advance Poll Opened Today in The Pas Constituency

Voters may cast ballots at the Legion Hall from 1:00 PM to 10:00 PM today Wednesday and again Thursday and Friday. Election Day is Thursday June 23rd. Three candidates run including Jack Carroll seeking re election. he was first elected in 1958 and appointed to the Roblin government.

Second Pump For The Pas River

A new additional stationary pump costing about 100 000 has been approved for The Pas River. Jack Carroll told a public meeting in Carrot Valley Community Hall last Saturday evening. He seeks re election to the Manitoba Legislature in the June 23 election. He says two permanent pumps will serve the area with the old pump kept for standby. He highlights a recently awarded contract to clear and brush the Grand Rapids to 10 Highway power line near the Overflow River. In August the contract for the line from Overflow to The Pas will be let, paving the way for hydro power to The Pas and an equalization of power rates with Swan River.

Viola Hill Honored by Kelsey Division Teachers

Miss Viola Hill, retiring in June after 38 years of teaching in Manitoba, was feted at an afterschool party. She received a telephone table and gladiolus bouquet from staff and a cut-glass vase from the board as thanks for her service.
