Archbishop Pignedoli to Visit Keewatin Missions This June

His Grace Archbishop Sergio Pignedoli Apostolic Delegate for Canada will visit Keewatin Missions this June. He will travel to Cross Lake Norway House Grand Rapids and The Pas with a full day of events at Grace Cathedral Parish. The itinerary includes Masses at the Cathedral Holy Sacrifice Sermons by the Archbishop visits to Catholic Residences Institutions and the Guy Indian Residential School Clearwater Lake followed by an informal reception in Guy Hall with local dignitaries and students.

Town rejects $100 claim for dog killed by tranquilizer shot

Charlie Morrish sought $100 after his black lab Scotty was shot with a tranquilizer gun used by the dog catcher around 10 36 p m on May 18. The council rejected the claim and Morrish plans to involve the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The tranquilizer gun had been bought from a cattle ranch operation two years ago.

Charlebois Residence Remains Open After School Closure

Officials announce Charlebois Residence will continue to provide housing for boys attending school in The Pas. The decision follows the closing of The Pas Sacred Heart High School with collaboration among Charlebois authorities and local school leaders.

Vandalism Threatens Passions Club Pool Operations

The Passions Club pool, taken over three summers ago from the Community Club, faced escalating vandalism from spring into early summer. In the June 1 incident windows shattered doors ripped from frames, a fence damaged twice, pool dividers ripped, toilets blocked, debris scattered, and blocks broken, risking closure if damage continues.

Lions Sport Show Plans Completed

The Pas Lions Sports Show is set for June 18 and 19 at The Pas Arena. Nine local merchants lease space for an array of sporting equipment and accessories. The event runs 7:30 pm each night with games for all ages, a Dunk the Lion booth, a kiddie fish pond, a Bar-B-Q, and 60 door prizes valued at 200 dollars. Admission is 25 cents.

The Pas Library Group urges the Town Council to hold a Library Vote under the Libraries Act this October requiring at least 8 percent of electors to petition. Since opening, the library has borrowed about 27,000 books to 836 card holders with demand exceeding capacity.

The Manitoba Telephone Employees Group awards the Don Snider Memorial Trophy to Brian Lagimodiere patrol leader of the Night Hawk Patrol 3rd The Pas Scout Troop. Don Snider, an MTS employee and former leader of the 2nd The Pas Troop, died last winter in an accident. The trophy honors the outstanding Scout Patrol at the annual spring Camporee.

The Royal Canadian Legion ia Pas Branch sponsors Rivers Pipe Band for a July 2 visit featuring 34 members and six dancers. The Town Council will close part of the street near the provincial building for an evening concert after attending the Legion's Memorial Day Services earlier in the day.
