Don Simpson and Wayne Hutton note Reactions win with an experienced young band and a strong drummer. The Last Hour performed well despite fewer instruments, while organizers thank Pas Herald, Elks Hall, Cliff Reno, and adjudicators. A $7.85 shortfall left prize money unpaid and no local donations to the Red Cross. The writer urges The Last Hour to contact the prize money holder.
Eventide notes the town planning committee refused re zoning of the boarding house property and the council ordered the current owner to phase out the operation by a set deadline.
George Litton of Churchill Forest Industries said Montreal Trust acted for unknown buyers to acquire the Even tide property. The plan is to convert the site for workers coming to The Pas to build a saw mill, with other properties eyed to house incoming Churchill personnel.
A Manitoba bill establishes terms for redistributing provincial boundaries. It fixes 57 seats and a yearly ten year cycle with rural wards allowed to be 26 percent below and urban wards up to 25 percent above the average population. The Pas Riding will likely see extensive changes and the commission must weigh population similarities and communication networks among other factors.
The commission aims to have each municipality mostly within one electoral division. It is chaired by the chief electoral officer and includes the Manitoba chief justice and the University of Manitoba president. Redistribution last occurred in 1957. Mail Social News to Box 1738 The Herald.
