Town Council announced prices for land in The Pas Annex though sale awaits a registered development plan. Serviced land priced at $30 per front foot includes gravel roads and a gravel base for sidewalks. A one year lease option aims to curb speculation, with raw land set at $8.75 per front foot.
Jack Carroll was nominated as Progressive Conservative candidate for The Pas in the June 25 provincial election at a combined nominating convention. He was unopposed, with Bob Wilson elected president as about 85 attendees from the riding gathered. Carroll first won a Manitoba Legislature seat in 1957 and has since served in the provincial cabinet with Tourism and Recreation portfolios.
Two Flin Flon youths, Murray Anderson, 20, and Reginald Leach, 19, were found not guilty on assault and resisting arrest charges by Magistrate Keith Taylor. Leach was found guilty of speeding and failing to stop at a stop sign.
David S Shaw chair of the local march organization reports about 400 participants with 152 finishing the full 30 mile route. Henry Cook and Vern Jebb led the field finishing by 4 p.m. Allison Perry at seven was the youngest to complete the course arriving at 10 45 P M. Most walkers started at 9 a m while Jim Fasano George Takashima and Ed Teler began by 6 a.m and each completed at least 20 miles.
A special Friday meeting of the Town Council approved second reading of the Hospital By-Law and the Municipal Board of Manitoba gave approval. The by-law would authorize the town to issue debentures up to 155000 dollars for a planned addition to St Anthony's Hospital.
The Pas Liberal Association holds its annual General Meeting and Nominating Convention on Wednesday, June 4 at 8 p.m. in the Elks Hall. Guest speaker will be J. Duncan Edmonds. Refreshments will be served and all are welcome.
Churchill Forest Industries announces steel contracts totaling nearly two million dollars for its pulp mill at Kennedy International Airport. B H Lacey Western Operations Dominion Bridge Company Limited, George Litton Churchill Forest Industries Acting General Manager, and A Fraser MacDonald Bridge and Tank Western Ltd. managers conclude the contracts.
Two The Pas men, John Bodnar and Webb Thorvaldson, appointed as agents for the Fresh Water Fish Marketing Corporation in northern Manitoba. The Pas Agency will supply fishermen, make short term advances, and handle catch sales within its northern Manitoba boundary.
Central Canadian Structures Ltd began erecting the steel framework last week. A company spokesman says the work could be completed in about two and a half weeks if progress continues. Councillor Stu Carey, chair of the rink committee, reports satisfactory progress and plans to pour additional gravel within a few days.
The Manitoba Department of Mines and Natural Resources reports prices set by the Freshwater Fish Marketing Corporation for the summer season. The federal entity acts as a selling agent for fish from northwestern Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and the Northwest Territories. Manitoba has joined the agreement and is represented on the board and advisory council. The price for Jumbo grade premium white fish is established.

About 60 local air cadets from Number 303 The Pas Air Cadet Squadron RC A C will hold an inspection parade on Sunday June 8 at 2 p.m. at the Provincial Garage grounds on Third Street. Inspecting Officer Lt Col H Sullivan will be present along with Major R Crouch Capt Bill Jack Lieut Don Love and a Provincial Air Cadet League representative. A banquet at 6:30 p.m. at Elks Hall will follow with awards and the main address by Lt Col Sullivan.
