The Pas residents file 70 to 80 letters with the Department in Winnipeg opposing the planned bridge site over the Saskatchewan River. Local objections focus on the proposed location near the Railway crossing as the Highways department advances the project.
A 22 year old Gilbert Alexander Laliberty faces a capital murder charge in The Pas for the death of 55 year old Ronald Ross of Duck Bay. Ross's body was found in The Pas River on June 19. Preliminary Hearing set for August 5.
The Kelsey School Division Board disclosed a plan for a new high school costing $908,000 with taxpayers contributing $159,500 and Pas funding about $143,000. Manitoba grants total $594,500 and Indian Affairs pays $165,500 toward the project including a multipurpose lunch room. The plan includes 48 classrooms and site on town’s east side.
Kelsey School Division Board and Manitoba Government debate funding for a new high school. A Carrot River area resident, six and a half miles from the bus route, drives a child to the bus point and seeks Education Act compensation. His annual tax bill, about $28, includes around $20 in school levy.
The Manitoba team for the Centennial Voyageur Canoe Pageant was announced. Paddlers Gib McEachern Norm Cerrar Roger Carriere Joe Michelle Wayne Soltys John Norman Don Starkell and Blair Harvey represent Cranberry Portage Flin Flon Winnipeg will start from Rocky Mountain House Alberta May 21 1967 and paddle 3500 miles over 103 days to Montreal September 1 1967.
