Vandals mar Guide Camp at Clear Water Lake
Vandals damaged the Guide Camp at Mile 25, Pioneer Bay over the July weekend. The park was unstaffed from Friday afternoon until Monday when a Parks Branch attendant saw the damage and alerted RCMP. Police report other tents vandalized in the same area with no suspects yet.

Brandon Band Awarded Grant for Northern Manitoba Tour
The Brandon University Concert Band receives a 2500 grant from the Manitoba Arts Council to fund a five community tour in Northern Manitoba in October. It marks the council’s first award to a Manitoba student group for this kind of project. The 60 member ensemble plans performances in The Pas Flin Flon Swan River Thompson and possibly Snow Lake.

Promoted to Staff Sergeant in The Pas RCMP
S/Sgt Elmer Cutts, head of The Pas RCMP Town detachment, promoted after 22 years with the force. He joined RCMP earlier he spent a decade north of the 53rd parallel. Cutts has served in Thompson Thorn Flin Flon Churchill Wabowden and Dauphin Swan River. He moved to The Pas a year ago from Thompson. He previously opened the Thorn detachment in 1958 and rose from Corporal to Sargeant in 1969. The Pas now has two staff sergeants, including Ron White. Cutts says The Pas has settled and problems are declining.

Man Falls 17 Feet From Bridge Into Underpass
Mathews Buck of the Big Eddy reserve plummeted 17 feet from railroad tracks to the pavement below early Thursday July 13 while dodging an inbound train from the north at The Pas bridge. The train engineer saw a man on the tracks and Buck later fell through ties, suffering a broken pelvis and multiple scratches. He remains in hospital under care. The Pas Rodeo set for August 6 and 7 at the Exhibition grounds aims to outdo prior years despite the Diamond Jubilee cancellation. A beer garden is planned, with Mammoth Parade at 11 a.m. Monday. Opasquia Indian Days to Run a Full Week
The Opasquia Indian Days festival runs August 14 to 19 with a 120 mile canoe race offering 3750 in prizes to the winning two man team. Accident Intervenes On Fischer Avenue Involving RCMP
On July 8 a rural RCMP constable driving north on Fischer Avenue attempted a right turn onto 1st Street and collided with a vehicle driven by Alf Lundy of the Department of Mines and Natural Resources. Fischer Avenue carries a yield sign and the officer’s car hit rough pavement.
