Mayor Harry Trager will leave The Pas around August 15 for the New York World's Fair. He also attended the Seattle World's Fair.
Funeral service for James William Green 31 held at Westminster United Church The Pas with Rev LK Martin officiating. Green funeral notes he died Friday July 10 when a half ton truck he operated lost control five and a half miles west of The Pas on the Orosquen Highway around 5 15 pm while returning from a farming district trip to arrange cattle shipment. RCMP report the truck went out of control.
The Nip House on Edwards Avenue must improve order or risk license cancellation after a RCMP report to the Town of The Pas council. Police cited excessive calls to the premises and time spent by officers. The meeting also considered office furnishings and paving a La Rose station area, and approved fluorine in the water supply.
Louise Rivalin daughter of Mr and Mrs Paul Rivalin is in Argentina as a guest of Rotary District 491. She is one of four daughters of Rotarians from District 555 visiting Argentina after traveling from Winnipeg via New York. The group spent five days in Winnipeg learning Spanish before their flight, and toured the World’s Fair en route.
Sandra Hayes, one of 120 Manitoba students, leaves The Pas August 1 for a two week pilot centennial exchange to New Brunswick. The trip is sponsored by the Manitoba Centennial Corporation and the National Centennial Committee as part of the summer program.
Hon Jack Carroll officiated the ceremony with Bishop Paul Dumouchel and Marcel Bernardin of Bernardin Bros Ltd. Bernardin presented the master key to the Mother General of the Grey Nuns, who will administer St. Pauls. The church cost $550000 and was completed on schedule. Bishop Dumouchel praised contractor Marcel Bernardin for timely work.
Wage talks between the town and union reach a stalemate and a three member conciliation board is appointed after a failed conciliation officer attempt. The union seeks a 10¢ an hour across the board raise retroactive to January 1 and a three year contract. the town offers a three year deal with 5¢ raises in 1965 and 1966 plus a job classification system. Top town wages are about $2.40 for a water works supervisor, with machinists at $1.97 and laborers at $1.40. The board names are Ben Profit of BA Service Station Pas and John Perdue machinist with the City of Brandon, with chairman to be named. (Continued on page 6)
