Tides and Trails to Feature Trappers Festival Coverage
The Tides and Trails show from Vancouver and Jearies Ted Peck will air a special half hour on the 1964 Trappers Festival. The Pas will host festival guests with three station wagons from Rock City for transport. CBC radio crew will cover the three days for the national network and CKDM Dauphin plans with Al Pascal as host at the Teenagers Rendezvous. Winnipeg papers, CKOS-TV and CNR will also provide coverage from The Pas with events Feb 19 to Feb 22.

Northern Manitoba Development Association Formed at Cranberry Portage
A new group named the Northern Manitoba Development Association was formed last Thursday at Cranberry Portage to foster regional development. Nearly 50 people attended at the Mid-Canada station with delegates from The Pas and Flin Flon region. Bob Shewfelt was elected chairman, Tom Dobson vice chairman, and Henry Jones secretary treasurer, as ministers and MPs attended.

Arbitration Rules In Kelsey School Board Pay Dispute
A three member Arbitration Board rejected teachers demands for a 5 percent across the board raise, deeming it costlier than 11 thousand dollars. The panel approved a 2008 year step increase for teachers with top degrees at the high school level, affecting eight staff. Nurses Aid Courses Start February 10
St. Anthony's Hospital announced Nurses Aid Courses begin February 10 with 60 hours total. Classes meet Monday and Wednesday evenings. Applicants aged 16 to 45 with grade eight or higher may apply by calling Sister Superior at MAS 3411 between January 27 and February 5 for an interview. No course fee. each winner buys a training manual.

Bootlegging and Liquor Offenses Lead to Fines and Jails
Lambert Dallaire of The Pas received a $500 fine and four months in jail after defaulting on the sentence for bootlegging. Wilfred Monais faced $100 and costs or two months for supplying liquor to a minor, also serving jail after default. Alexander Lathlin paid $100 and costs or two months for public intoxication, while taxi driver Joseph Chartrand was fined $200 and costs for criminal negligence in a crash involving a passenger hanging onto his cab. The Pas RCMP note a third liquor-supply conviction in a month and mark Dallaire’s case as a rare local bootlegging indictment, with a $1000 maximum fine and two months jail.

Break-In At Opasquia School Reported by RCMP
RCMP continue inquiry into a break-in at Opasquia School on the night of Wednesday January 15. Entry gained through a side window and the janitor’s alarm helped scare off the intruder at a door. Police say nothing appears missing. Earlier that evening Carroll Motors also bore an intrusion with some change reported missing.

Seven Juveniles Remanded In Court
Seven youths appeared in juvenile court and faced charges including theft of liquor and possession. One defendant changed a plea from not guilty to guilty on liquor theft, another pled guilty to possession with an added charge, while all seven face possession charges and five are charged with theft of liquor. Conservatives Propose Northern Power Rate Meeting

Town Approves Annual Grant To Retarded School
The Pas Town Council approves a 1964 grant of 2126 to The Pas School for Retarded Children. The school, in the basement of the Apostolic Church, has 12 pupils and a 600 deficit on 1963 operations. the grant follows a Manitoba style funding formula. Mr. Ford McMillan spoke for Bill's Lodge supporting the request.
