Ukrainians Celebrate Jan 7 Christmas Traditions

The Ukrainian Christmas is observed on January 7 by the Julian calendar. Homes display the Diduch sheaf and Yalynka tree, with hay under the cloth to symbolize the manger. Christmas Eve includes a meatless feast, family grace, and a candle symbolizing the star of Bethlehem.

Thirteen candidates, including Gwen 17 and Patty 19, vie for Miss Fur Queen at The Pas festival. Contenders hail from The Pas, Cranberry Portage, Wanless and surrounding areas, with ties to local schools, clubs, and jobs.

RCMP Seeks Help in Death Case Near Trager Building

Town RCMP seek assistance after 44 year old James Bloomfield of Big Eddy was found dead in a vacant lot behind the former Trager Building on Fischer Avenue on December 23. He was taken to hospital and died at 9 05 PM. A passerby alerted police. See assistance page 4.

Keewatin College Names Lois M Britton Principal

Ben Hanuschak announces Lois M Britton of Winnipeg as principal of Keewatin Pas effective January 1976. Britton replaces David Poole who resigned to join the communities colleges division. She has nine years teaching experience and ten years supervising home management for the Northwest Territories government.

Sewage plant hearings set for Hugo Bay site

The Manitoba Department of Tourism and Recreation seeks a sewage treatment plant at Hugo Bay on Clearwater Lake. The Clean Environment Commission will hold hearings in late spring or summer this year with public input in evenings. Protests from residents campers and non residents accompany the plan.

Planning Commission ends as new Manitoba planning act takes effect

The Pas and Consol area consider forming a Regional Planning Board under the new Act. The Pas council and Consol council indicated willingness to form a board, but ministerial action may override. Board members must be elected representatives from Town Council and the L.G.D. See PLANNING.
