Manitoba Judge Neil Macphee Named Queen's Counsel
Neil Macphee of The Pas, a magistrate and juvenile court judge since 1952, was named Queen's Counsel on the New Year Honours list. Born in St. Boniface in 191, he studied at St. Paul's College and Manitoba Law School, served in the RCAF in World War II, and holds multiple community leadership roles in The Pas and Manitoba. He is married to Marie Fernande Pelletier of Riviere du Loup, Quebec.

The Pas telephone operators break Christmas Day record with 3205 long distance calls an 19 8 percent rise from last year. On Boxing Day 1335 calls were handled by 23 operators. Most calls went to Manitoba points and overseas. New Year traffic added 1274 calls.

Meeting to decide fate of Clearwater Lake Hospital in Winnipeg
A high level meeting is set for Monday in Winnipeg to decide the hospital's future. Attendees include the Sanatorium Board of Manitoba the federal health department the Manitoba Hospital Commission and the Manitoba health department. Clearwater Lake formerly Clearwate Lake Sanatorium has operated since 1945 under the federal program and treated thousands of TB patients.

Police Report Quiet Holiday In The Pas
RCMP say a very good and very quiet holiday season in The Pas and district with three minor accidents in The Pas. One near Seventh Avenue crossing December 31 caused a near collision. Earl Jellisson bailed out to avoid a crash after stopping for a southbound freight. Country detachment notes one crash 10 miles north on Highway 10. driver and passengers treated for minor injuries and liquor in a vehicle charge filed. New Year dances were well attended and smoothly run.
