Trappers' Festival Draws Record Four to Five Thousand

The 22nd Annual Trappers Festival drew an estimated four to five thousand visitors over four days. Visitors stayed in service stations, hotels, and private homes as events sold out, with standing room gone for festival highlights. The snow and ice sculpture contest and motorized toboggan races drew strong interest while the Saskatchewan River provided a dramatic backdrop for daily dog derby laps. Alex Cook of Brochet won the Labatt Trophy and $1,000 after three days, with Clinton Martin of The Pas and Franklin Carriere of Cumberland House taking top times.
