In ten days agitation rose as CFI opens an office in a residential Tack House at Constant and Tenth The Pas. Critics warn it violates Town Planning and creates traffic risk while CFI argues the duplex move is temporary and practical until plant site offices are ready.

Ratepayers in Consol LGD covering Carrot Valley Wanless Rahls Island Grace Lake and surrounding settlements will vote on a money by law for St. Anthony's Hospital. A private member’s bill before Manitoba Legislature seeks permission for The Pas town and Consol LGD to conduct the hospital vote.
The Northern Manitoba Vocational Centre student council sponsors a variety night in the school gym on Thursday February 6 at 8 p.m. The show features 20 students performing singing skits comedies and other items of entertainment. Admission is 50 cents.
Tickets for the Stage Show All Rendezvous and Mushers Banquet go on sale at Festival Headquarters in the Cambrian Hotel Lobby with Florence Harvey as staff chair. Hours vary Monday two days 5 pm to 9 pm then 9 am to midnight 12 14 February and Saturday 10 am to 4 pm. All Rendezvous tickets must be bought in advance.
Dr. R. Walton, head of the Associated Medical Clinic, warns that a compulsory medical insurance program could leave the north with limited care and force a second choice of services. He stresses the view is personal, not the clinic's, as members weigh in with no decision yet. A weekend press meeting was planned.
Premier Walter Weir and Health Minister George Johnson unveiled a Manitoba Medical Services Insurance program to start April 1. The plan mirrors the H C X model with comprehensive coverage through a new Manitoba Medical Services Insurance Corporation. Premiums are set at 9.80 dollars per family.
Negotiations between the Kelsey School Division and its teachers may be completed this week. Bill McLean, chairman of the board's negotiating committee, said fringe benefits have pretty well been settled and wages remain the only issue. The board offered a two percent increase across the board after the teachers had requested eight percent.
The power toboggan races move from the river to the Exhibition Ground due to river slush. Roy Sheppard of The Pas Power Toboggan Club says inquiries come from across Manitoba and beyond. The first race starts at 1 pm Thursday February 13, featuring 15 laps on a closed course.
Raymond Massey Builders Ltd met with Town Council Churchill Forest Industries and government engineers to discuss The Pas Annex housing site south of the Vocational School. Town acquired land for $1.00 and the area could host up to 1800 dwellings. A three way deal with CFI and Manitoba Government would supply land for a maximum 500 units for workers at the forestry camp.
The Pas joins next year's Northwest Territories Centennial effort with a 750 mile power Toboggan race to Yellowknife and a budget of 608000 for the first Arctic winter games set March 10 to 14. A Anchorage to Yellowknife car rally over 1100 miles and two chain races are also planned.
Two men from Wabowden and Pukatawagan are held on a coroner's warrant after their wives were found dead. Coroner Evans Premachuk reports both cases show severe bruising and pathologist reports are pending in Winnipeg. Henry Mallet faces death of wife Agnes Mallet. the second husband, Mary Jane Sinclair's spouse from Pukatawagan, is held as well. Inquests opened and adjourned pending pathology results.
