Mr Ballantyne and his wife Sarah Jane lost their six year old home in a blaze. He tried to reenter but flames blocked access after doors opened. He broke a side window to save the TV but could not reach it. They have no insurance and will need another home. The couple includes two barefoot boys and a two month old baby.
Ballantyne, a 30 year old River Sawmills driver, lost their home and furniture in a Monday night blaze. He and his wife, with two children, received clothing and food vouchers from Welfare and hospital auxiliary aid, while Red Cross and local families offered blankets and bedding as they search for housing and steady work.
Mr Ballantyne and his five children, a non-treaty Indian family, lost their home in a recent fire in The Pas. They are staying at a home that houses several seniors and hope to locate a private house soon so they are not a burden. Ballantyne said Christmas will be skimpy but they will be glad if they find shelter and a place for the family.
The Pas Herald notes inquiries welcome from those who can assist the Ballantyne family and other locals in The Pads area to ensure a happier Christmas. Several families will have a modest celebration but still need a home and support.
A fragment notes that a fire at Christmas time can be one of the worst enemies of a merry Christmas, reflecting common warnings about holiday fires and safety risks during the festive season.
