Santa Claus visits St Pauls Residence in warm gesture

Santa Claus visited St Pauls Residence last Thursday bringing Legion Ladies Auxiliary members and gifts for the 70 residents. Mrs Jolly, 91 and a five year resident, received a special handshake from Santa as the Herald photographer captured the moment. A senior, Thomas, is noted as another attendee.

Christmas Baby At St. Anthony's

A baby girl weighing 7 pounds was born to Veronique and Edward Bighetty on Christmas Day at St. Anthony's Hospital at 2 45 p.m. Hospital officials have not named the newborn yet. The father is a 36 year old trapeper from Pukatawagan where the family resides.

Jack L. King Memorial Fund Established

A memorial fund is set up for Jack L. King a dentist who served The Pas and northern Manitoba. King died young after a career with the Department of Health and Social Development later practicing in The Pas. He married Anne Sookavieff in 1963 and left two children Shaun and Amy. CONT'D ON PAGE 4

Metis dissidents form Federation of Non Treaty Natives

A dissident Metis group from The Pas area accuses the Information Communication Program of running a self serving friendship clique. They say IPC directors misrepresent Metis from Young's Point Big Eddy Umpherville and The Pas Reserve and have broken from the Manitoba Metis Federation to form the Federation Of Non Treaty Natives Incorporated. They allege IPC receives a million dollar three year budget to communicate within The Pas Special Area and note federal provincial funding links to NewStart and Manpower Corps.

Opasquia Open In January Projected at Opasquia School

Opasquia Elementary on Eighth Street at Gordon Avenue may open in January if plans and construction stay on schedule, said Harold Grundy, Kelsey School Division superintendent. The Pas builds three additions totaling about 2 million dollars, with Kelsey Elementary and Margaret Barbour Collegiate also advancing. The pool add to the Collegiate pushes the total near 2.223 million. Mary Duncan Elementary rises on the former fire site with a 500,660 dollar project. Scott Bateman Junior High drawings are underway and tenders will follow.

School Officials Happy With Progress On Brief

Kelsey School Division officials report strong progress on a brief presented to Ron McBryde MLA for The Pas. Harold Grundy says a productive December 16 meeting in Winnipeg with Peter Wilby and Jim Whitford could bring immediate financial assistance as early as January.

Hospital Wing Fund Gift Presented by Mayor
