Public Meeting on High School Building Program By-law

A public meeting will be held September 8 at 8 00 P M in the Resi pa Auditorium to explain the proposed High School Building Program and the money by law to be voted on September 12, 1966. The Kel sly School Division seeks urgent expansion with a new high school near Grace Lake Road to free Margaret Barbour Collegiate for Elementary use. The plan includes 25 academic classrooms two typing rooms three laboratory spaces a library and office area a two classroom multipurpose area a six classroom gymnasium auditorium and related facilities.

Vocational School Opens At The Pas On Sept 26

The Northern Manitoba Vocational School at The Pas will open Monday September 26, three weeks later than planned due to material shortages and winter delays. Brandon’s Vocational School also delays three weeks and landscaping and paving around the site will finish next year.

Local Riding Club Formed Offers Rentals and Meeting

A new Local Riding Club invites riders whether they own horses or not. Rentals for horses and barriers available with additional charges. Members pay a $10 fee for access to watering, catching, training corrals, race track and lodge. A meeting is set for Saturday September 3 at 8 PM to discuss aims and a trail ride. The venue is six and a half miles south on Highway 10.

B S A Organizes Voluntary Kindergarten

The Better Start Association held its first meeting on Tuesday August 28 with 27 attendees. They discussed creating a voluntary kindergarten for local children unable to attend existing ones and reviewed a five week pilot project.

Bank of Montreal opens with first depositor Mrs Parker

Mrs Frank Parker was among the first depositors at the new Bank of Montreal branch on Edwards and Second. Branch manager Keith Banks presented her with a pass book as accountant Dennis Kichak and teller Phyllis Todoruk looked on.

Local solicitor challenges Town of The Pas over tax and property moves

W R Martin accuses The Pas of uneven enforcement as he explains arrangements with Dr Carey and Bob Warner to move a shack owned by him from Edwards site. He alleges tax arrears blocked the move and claims new owners should shoulder the tax, while noting zoning on east town housing.

Fireworks Kick Off 1967 Pas Trappers Festival

A giant fireworks display will open the 1967 Pas Trappers Festival on February 15 at the sports ground near Halcrow Lake. The event runs to February 18 with ice palace lights, a moccasin race, and a new queen selection method replacing ticket-based cash prizes with dog derby pools and prize structure totaling $1350 per 3600 tickets.

Herald Closed For Labor Day

The Pas Herald offices will be closed all day on Monday September 5th for Labour Day. Distribution to news stands will be delayed until the afternoon on Wednesday September 7th. Regular Monday deadlines apply to Tuesday, and organizational copy deadlines remain Friday.

Local Legal Partnership Formed In The Pas

Sylvester C. McGoey of Winnipeg joins with Bill Martin to form Martin and McGoey in The Pas. McGoey earned a BA from Western Ontario and a Manitoba Law School degree in 1956 after practicing in Winnipeg. The couple has four school age children and Mrs. McGoey Pat is pursuing a Masters in Social Welfare. He will commute to Winnipeg until a home is found in The Pas.
