Golden Anniversary for Joe Na n ry and Mrs Hamm in The Pas
Aug 13 1973 notes Joe Nanry and Mrs John Hamm of The Pas celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary. Married November 26 1923 they chose summer for the gathering at Guy Hall. They moved from Bruno Saskatchewan to The Pas in 1945. Mr Hamm worked at Frechette Dairy and Mrs Hamm at Kerrs Furs. They have three children Del Eloi Libbrecht Verna Mel Fowler and Orville, fourteen grandchildren and two great granddaughters. The couple are active in the Catholic Church and enjoy quilting and gardening in retirement. An anniversary supper and reception followed by a dance were held with family friends in attendance.

Local railroaders strike 48 hours across regions
As of 6:00 a.m. Thursday August 2, the Associated Non Operating Employees of the Canadian National Railroad in The Pas were on a 48-hour strike. Workers picketed CN buildings around the clock and included maintenance of way staff, the Canadian Brotherhood of Railway Transport, general works employees, and the Telegraphers' Commercial Union as part of a Manitoba and Saskatchewan wide action. The rotating strike expanded east of Quebec by Friday morning.

Blacktop Program Underway In The Pas
The Town of The Pas begins excavation and backfill for a 6.9 mile paving project in Phase I with a $1.8 million Borger Industries contract. Attending were Mavors, V Kennedy, Norman Baxter, Gerry Spaeth, Wally Wiebe, and Town Manager W F Lengerke, plus Minister Sam Askiw and about 16 agricultural reporters from Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
