Stan William son, northern regional supervisor, says bear numbers have increased south of The Pas and urges more hunters to participate in the bear season this fall.
Local postal workers express frustration with the prolonged strike and blame the Treasury Board for not offering a decent wage. Many face financial hardship with no pay, some taking odd jobs to cover groceries. Most see no end in sight, with only one employee demanding improved working conditions before a settlement.
The Pas postal workers, amid a wage dispute at 19 percent, rely on local union funds for support as the strike limits nationwide payments. Some mail moves locally via inter office couriers while government offices and agencies receive internal mail. Businesses distribute month end bills in person and Manitoba Hydro hands out monthly statements. MTs plan a distribution announcement next week if needed.
The Pas golf notes announce a local club open tournament on August 11 with 7:00 AM tee off. Four players Claude Bissionette George Lalonde Ray Zawacki and Doug White will represent the club in the Provincial Sugar Bowl. The club championship features Bill Mof vs Ray Zawacki and Vern Gale. Junior and ladies events are planned for late August or early September with lunches served in the clubhouse.
