Arnold Clark won a Ski-Doo, trailer, toboggan and full gear in a Knights of Columbus fundraiser in The Pas. Proceeds support minor hockey and KC hockey tournaments. Mayor Jack Kennedy drew the prize on April 14, with Orest Pidskalny presenting the outfit and Ernie Neveux supervising the handover.
Shirley Jonas wins the by election to join the Town Council replacing Doug McBride who resigned in March. Jonas receives 441 votes to Myrna Vandermaelen 183. The contest reflects a 9.7 percent vote share for Jonas with results noted as continued on page 10.

Town Council discussed dust abatement for The Pas and decided the budget will not cover oiling all streets. Muskeg bases would ruin oil, so officials plan to oil some streets while using calcium on others plus patch work. Mayor Kennedy preferred having a few holes over widespread dust. Weather later halted dust concerns with 14 inches of snow. Councillor Jim Fasanore chaired the session.
Gary Morrish of Jones Grocery plans a new 10 000 square foot grocery outlet on Crossley and Grace Lake road across from M B C collegiate with 20 000 square feet of parking. Excavation underway and open by next fall uncertain. The project replaces the Jones Dungeon with parking access.
Minor Hockey will wind up their season Friday April 27 at 6 00 p.m. in Guy Hall with a supper for players and parents only plus the election of a new executive to carry on the association next season. Admission is 1.00 per person and players should be accompanied by a parent.
The Saskatoon Little Blades won the Munn Cup by defeating The Pas Elk's 3-0 in the Thompson finals at the C N Nesbitt Arena. Geff Stevens led Saskatoon in the A division and later moved to the B division, with wins over Thompson Warriors Snow Lake and Lynn Lake. The Pas also shut out two early opponents in the A division.
Premier Schreyer will travel to The Pas to speak at the New Democrat Party nominating convention on Friday April 27. He will stay for a breakfast with Town Council Saturday and will meet with local officials. MLA Ron McBryde, seeking re election, will also attend.
The thirty ninth annual Music Speech-Arts and Drama Festival begins Sunday April 29 at 7:00 p.m. in the Margaret Barbour Collegiate Auditorium. The Pas Women’s Glee Club and The Pas Girls’ Choir lead the opening program under S Pentelichuk and M Toews. Competition runs through the week with a Wednesday session featuring Junior Drama Classes.
Councillor Gus Gelowitz reported to council that town staff are urging owners of problem dogs to take warnings seriously. The town superintendent indicated efforts focus on communicating the importance of responsible dog ownership, with continued details expected on page 10.
Snow began as rain on Thursday then turned to heavy snow by Good Friday. By Saturday Pas Manitoba reported 14 inches with vehicles stranded townwide. Town crews cleared streets, keeping one lane open though some cars remained blocked after plows passed. Snow continued into Monday with heavy downfall as spring seemed distant.
