Craik unveils senior tax aid and youth work program
Manitoba Finance Minister Don Craik announced two budget plans. Senior citizens in their own homes can receive up to 100 dollars to offset school taxes, boosting direct property tax relief to 475 dollars for 1978. A private sector youth employment program will grant up to 1000 dollars per new job for youths 16 to 24, with wages set at 1.25 to 1.50 per hour and a 16 week span, aiming to create about 2000 jobs through 2 million dollars. The programs will run May 1 to October 27 and be administered without extra staff.
