Public Housing Costs Set to Be Lower Than Expected

Manitoba government will cover operating losses for municipal public housing schemes. About 900 to 1,000 units planned or built in 1970-71, including 100 in The Pas. Three participation options offered: partnership method among others.

Court action seeks license for Latimer taxi operator

D A K Bancroft on behalf of Robert Latimer has begun action against The Pas to compel issuing the taxi operators license. The suit seeks an Order of Mandamus and to quash town refusals. The matter, tied to RCMP recommendation due to alleged bootlegging, is set for April 27.

Takashima Named Assistant School Superintendent

George Takashima is named Assistant Superintendent of the Kelsey School Division. He has served in The Pas for two years and currently leads Opasquia School as principal, with prior posts at Kelsey School. He will assume duties in September. Born in Vancouver and raised in London Ontario, he studied at Teacher's College and the University of Manitoba.

Kelsey Division Busy Hiring New Teachers

The Kelsey School Division plans for the next school year with early hiring. Superintendent Harold Grundy notes a trip to Winnipeg and Brandon during Easter yielded 100 interviews and 1 hires for the fall term. Among them are three collegiate and thirteen elementary teachers. high qualifications cited.

Go Ahead At Full Steam Schreyer Tells The Pas Council

The Pas Premier Schreyer announced to Town Council that an agreement between the provincial and federal governments is nearly ready to trigger work. The town could access 8.208 million in total aid with 1.703 million in grants and 504 thousand in loans, with grants predominating. He noted changes since negotiations began favoring The Pas, increasing grant share and reducing loan burden.

Recreation Director Hired in The Pas

The Kelsey Recreation Commission announced the hiring of 44 year old GW Ferguson as recreation director. He will start May 18 with over 13 years in recreation planning. since 1967 he led the Canyon Recreation Club at Fraserdale Ontario. He is married with two children.

Metis protest exclusion from The Pas development plans

Elementary Adds Unified Kelsey Opasquia Plan

Architects show a plan for new additions at Kelsey and Opasquia schools linking the two campuses into a unified building. Entrances would be on all four sides with bus unloading on Stewart Street and Settee Avenue and staff access from Hogan Avenue. Additional west side parking is planned.
