New Rink Complex Undergoes Early Construction Progress

Hagborg Construction reports excavation began last week on the new rink complex. Frost delays slowed work but overall progress remains on track. Central Canadian Structures holds a 247 846 dollar contract and plans piling work this week. Hagborg projects three weeks for excavation and gravel work.

Two Year Agreement Reached With Local Employees

After months of bargaining a two year contract raises 25 employees by eight percent in 1969 and four percent in 1970 with staged increases. Payroll rises from 160000 to 173000 in year one and to 190000 in year two. Vacation remains two weeks after one year and rises to four weeks after 17 years. A time clock will be installed for hourly staff.

Festival Assoc Annual Meeting in The Pas

The Northern Manitoba Trappers Festival Inc holds its annual general meeting on Wednesday April 9 at 8 30 p m in the Elks Hall in The Pas. Herman Reimer as general chairman says all residents may attend to hear the 68 69 operations report the auditors report and to elect a board of directors.

Manitoban plan aims for faster growth by 1980

The TED Commission report tabled in the legislature by Sidney Spivak urges Manitoba to accelerate growth through guidelines and dollar production goals for all sectors. It calls for 76,000 new and better jobs in the decade to lift per capita income, population, employment, and productivity toward sister provinces.

Juvenile Placed on Probation in Assault Case

A 16 year old involved in a three man assault on Allan Offrey last month was put on indefinite probation by Juvenile Court Judge C K Taylor. The two older assailants Wayne Chartrand 19 and William Carrier 18 received six months in jail after pleading guilty. The judge noted the youth was the instigator but had no prior record and warned of harsher action if he reoffends.

Local AG Rep Receives Land and Agriculture Extension Role

Jack Nickel, agricultural representative at The Pas since last August, is now land and agriculture extension agent effective April 1. He assumed land management duties in the Pasquia area, after Eric Batchelor retired last week. Manitoba announcement noted.

Bridge Work On Track To Beat Spring Breakup

Peter Leitch Construction anticipates finishing river piers of the new bridge before breakup. Cold weather aided progress, though a fire damaged pier six set back that unit by about a month. Piers three to seven are in the water with poured piers three five seven and four underway. footings poured for pier eight and work on nine planned.

Pas Area fish derby at Sunset Beach April 13

The Pas Area Game and Fish Association hosts a fish derby at Sunset Beach on Clearwater Lake April 13. A shuttle bus from Cambrian Hotel at 9 30 a.m. returns at 4 p.m. Free lunch noon to 1 p.m. Ice holes cut for fishing and motor toboggans for youths. No entry fee. prizes for best fish and special awards for ladies and under 16.

Fourteen Lot Subdivision For Sale In Batchelor Area

Fourteen lots in the Batchelor Subdivision, five miles south of town, are offered for public tender. Tender closes at 10:00 a.m. April 25. Reserve prices range from 500 to 1000 dollars. Lot sizes vary from 4.5 to 7.06 acres. Area surveyed with access road built. The subdivision was intended for livestock growers. A public notice is carried elsewhere in The Herald.

Two Accidents Near Prospector On Same Day

Two crashes within a half mile of each other occurred on Number 10 highway in the Prospector area on Tuesday. Eric Obal of Thompson drove a 1968 car into a C N R signal post causing $500 damage and bending the post. Later, Gerald Valley of Saskatoon stalled on the highway when rear ended by Claude Plourde of Thompson. Valley suffered back injuries and was treated, then released. Police continued investigations.
