The open brief follows an executive meeting where the forest complex controversy was aired.

Three Die In Fire On The Pas Reserve

A blaze on The Pas Reserve killed three people, Mark Ross and Violet Ross both 51 and Stella Young 50. Investigators suspect a coal oil lamp upset started the fire. two women were in bed and the man was at a table when it began. The Pas Volunteer Fire Department arrived as the building burned and an inquest was opened.

Complex Companies Pays $20 000 For Town Permits

The Complex Companies C F I paid 20 000 for building permits and licenses on March 25. Two checks covered an initial fee under a former by law and an increased fee as a gesture of good faith. Councillors Johannson and Tawse moved to have the town solicitor enforce the permit requirements.

Pulp-Complex Progress Report Highlights Man. Stumpage Projections

The Pas forestry development is expected to generate stumpage fees over 350 thousand dollars annually for Manitoba once the mill runs at full capacity. Current annual timber dues for the region total 72 thousand dollars under the CFI Province agreement. Over 20 years the company’s stumpage income to the province is projected near 6 million dollars, versus 1.5 million in the prior 20 years. The figures appear in a progress report filed today with Minister Sidney Green of Mines and Resources. The company must file such reports every six months.

RCMP On Lookout For Drug Users In The Pas

The Pas RCMP say they are watching for drug use and trafficking. Sgt. Elliott reports tips arrive about a week to ten days after parties, with marijuana dominant and some LSD and hashish mentioned. No arrests yet, but informants cover southern Manitoba.

Tax concession talks open for The Pas complex site

The Town of The Pas and Churchill Forest Industries Limited hold the sole agreement on municipal tax concessions for the complex. No deals exist for four other firms River Sawmills James Bertram and Son MP Industrial Mills Robbins Equipment. A 1966 20 year agreement was ratified by the Manitoba Legislature. Indoor pool closer to reality at Pas and Barbour plan

The Pas proposed indoor swimming pool, part of Margaret Barbour Collegiate expansion, moves toward reality. An artist’s view shows a glassed entry from the long hallway linking old and new areas, with cost estimates around 240000 dollars and over 100000 dollars pledged so far.
