Last Friday seventh grade students and staff organized a campus clean up. Boys and Elild scrubbed grounds under male teachers, girls tidied classrooms under senior students, then assembly featured Alumni program with piano, prayer, saxophone, proclamation and a one act play followed by a matinee dance.
Mr. Ray D. Garner and the FPA Stock judging team with Porter Clark Homer Adams and Floyd Matheson returned from the Utah County fair and State P P A convention. They placed eighth of twenty two schools with 2007 points while first won 2147. Porter Clark earned a silver medal at the F F A banquet. Garner plans more practice for a team to enter the Ogden Livestock show in January. The Dramatic Art class performs The Ghosts Walk with a cast including Karl Adams Helen Robinson Reader Anna Fendleton Henrietta Kent Alitchell Justin Irene Marsden Cleopatra Porter Clark Morris Rowley Charleston Butler Ira Lowe May Burt Edythe Whitney Nelda Holyoat. John Henry Four Ghosts will be presented soon. Tryouts for the School Play are today with a Nov 29 presentation date.
Cedar and Newcastle area educators attended a meeting in Newcastle to organize a Parent-Teachers association. Participants included Superintendent Barlow Principal Snow and multiple Cedar City teachers and members, with a varied musical program and a reception featuring chicken sandwiches and a dance.
Mayor Decker called a special council meeting to approve street improvement work and a race track project. The council signed a 300 water meter contract pending NRA loan funds and agreed to designate the site as a relief project. Traffic enforcement policy was debated with a minimum fine set at 2.50, and election judges will be named next Tuesday.
Ranger Frank Seaman surprised a group of hunters in Liest Valley while they carried shotguns. Upon recognizing him, the hunters dropped their guns and one man complained he was cheated out of a 4 4 chicken dinner. No action details were learned.
Mrs Alice Garner received word that her mother Verena Zollinger of Rexburg Idaho died during the night. Zollinger had been in poor health for years and was not seen in bed for three or four years. The family sorrowfully notes the illness prevented Mrs Garner from visiting her mother while her daughter Joan was hospitalized. The community offers sympathy to Mrs Garner and Mrs Alvin Decker.
The Relief Societies of Parowan's West and East Wards announce the start of winter activities. West Ward holds its first regular meeting Tuesday at 2 p.m with a 1:30 teacher meeting and book return. East Ward begins Wednesday October 4 with Doctrine and Covenants Lesson 10 and World Literature from John Macy.
City council mulls a revised electric schedule to cut rates after initial charges, enabling greater home use for cooking and heating. Fenton notes the plant can supply far more current than used and a half cent per kilowatt hour could boost city revenue versus coal sales. Further talks planned.
Riley F. Drager, longtime assistant examiner in charge of liquidation for the Bank of Iron County, left last week after returning from the World's Fair to take charge at Heber City Bank. Mr. Kimball now handles local bank affairs, with officials hoping for cost savings and a smoother liquidation.
Utah closes fishing in three popular lakes at 3 p m on September 30 with resumption planned June 15 1936 The Fish and Game department will continue planting this fall and next spring to restock streams and lakes after heavy angling The statewide closing date is October 1 for most streams and lakes but Fish Lake Navajo Lake and Itina Lake at Boulter Mountain shut earlier to protect fall spawners Newell B Cook state Fish and Game commissioner cautions anglers about limits and seasonal limits this year.
City officials announce an early underway street improvement program to help families tied to relief obligations. About 2001 is due from sources and will be worked off. The plan aims to start work promptly and remove brick light poles from several streets as labor.
A Literary club hosted a farewell social for Dr and Mrs Clark who are moving to St George. A chicken pie dinner followed by Five Hundred was served at the Garser residence with five prize tables. Mrs Guen Althurr won the high score prize and A C Watch won the consolation prize as autumn flowers adorned the event.
