Principal Hatch releases early figures showing 497 students registered by Sept 19 with 270 in elementary, 101 in seventh and eighth grades, and 126 in senior high. Prospects for a strong year rise as 65 activity cards have been sold and a committee plans yearlong activities.
Gene Tunney defeated Jack Dempsey at Soldiers Field Chicago lasting ten rounds to retain the heavyweight title before about 160000 spectators. Tunney dominated late rounds including the ninth and tenth while Dempsey suffered cut eyes and varied rounds. Gate receipts were about 2.8 million with Tunney earning around 1 million and Dempsey roughly 450000.
The United States Daily newspaper is now received daily at the Parowan Public Library. Published in Washington DC, the national paper informs readers about the 300 bureaus in Washington. It is delivered daily to the president, Cabinet members, and prominent professionals nationwide.

Sale at Iron County Courthouse Parowan Utah at noon October 8 1927 to cover taxes interest costs and advertising. Treasurer Anna Rasmussen authorized.
The Parowan High School Music Department features Ralph O Jensen, head of the Music Department. Born in Salt Lake City, he grew up in Heber City, won state contests in singing and declamation, studied at the University of Utah, and taught across Utah Nevada Idaho and Idaho again before returning to Parowan. He aims for a standout year in his long career.
Rise Grace Adams is back at the University of Utah this winter after leaving there earlier in the week.
The Parent-Teachers Association organized a Friday social to foster closer cooperation between parents and teachers. The program included songs, a prayer, and games to help acquaint attendees, with officials from Cedar City visiting and school board members in attendance.
Messrs Claude Adams Orland Ward and Joe Bettridge who have been working for the railroad at Milford were home to spend the week end. Editor A H Rollo was over from Cedar on business the first of the week. Mr and Mrs Frank Ward left yesterday for Bozeman Montana where Frank will attend school again this winter. His brother Orland will also be at the same school.
Mr. Glen Brown departed last week bound for Los Angeles seeking employment.
Mr and Mrs D J Lowe returned from a two week trip through the northern state and Idaho. In Twin Falls they met their daughter and attended the Elven program at the new Twin Falls Jerome bridge and saw the first car across. Their party then visited relatives in Parowan and Salt Lake City for Lindbergh celebrations. They also visited Mrs Lowe's father in Provo and Delta on the way home. Crops in Idaho and Utah are reported as exceptionally good this year.
Mr. Glen Orton son of Mrs. Mary L. Orton will return to the University of Utah again this winter. He expects to leave about the end of the week.
Mr Frank Adams attends the BA this winter while Mr Claude Mitchell departs to study at BAU this season. Both moves reflect ongoing trends in area residents seeking higher education opportunities.
Misa Ann Taylor and Grace Adams left last week to attend school, marking a notable move in local education paths.
Mr and Mrs Roy Moore announce the birth at their home of a healthy baby, born Saturday of the week. All concerned are doing fine.
Mr M H Dalley of Cedar City visited town to consult county records tied to his abstract business, signaling ongoing real estate work.
Misa Laura Mitchell traveled to Beaver to stay a week or two with her sister Mra and Grant Tolton.
Mr Wm A Evans came back this week from a short journey to California with stock. He plans to return within a few days to spend the winter in the Imperial Valley.
New actions entered include Bonneville Lumber Co v E Peak and G H Rhodes Arch Swapp et al and Bonneville Lumber Co v E Peak R A Arthur administrator to the estate of Joshua H Arthur and v Wm W Butler and John P Owen, detailing parties and claims.
A social was given last week by officers of organizations closely linked with Mrs John Pendleton who is leaving with her husband for the winter. The evening at the Relief Hall featured a short program and games as the main entertainment.
Blain Benson the son of Mr and Mrs Alvin R Benson of the city was brought to the County hospital last Sunday morning and underwent an appendectomy. He is reported to be recovering and getting along alright.
Bishop Adams traveled to Southern Utah's Dixie area yesterday to obtain fruit for the MOLA Opening Signal. He notes Dixie is a traveler’s path this season and reports excellent roads despite heavy year end traffic.
Wendall Bayles and Bill Dalton depart mid October as missionaries from Parowan West Ward. Their future labors are not yet known. Additional missionaries from the ward are expected to go out soon, though their names remain unannounced.
Mrs Luella R Adams who left early in the week for St George was honored with a farewell social by the East Ward Gleaner girls. The event at Emma L Clark’s home featured autumn decor a program and a tasty lunch as guests bid her good wishes for the wintering season.
Mr Ralph Jensen of the Music Department at Warewan High School traveled to Nevada over the weekend on business.
Charles Adama turned eighty four on Friday September 16. His children and grandchildren hosted a birthday party in his honor.
Jos, BH, Adams and family including J. Austin and Athene traveled from Salt Lake to spend the weekend and join the birthday celebration of Charles Adams.
The M I A groups in Parowan East and West wards held opening socials with singing, speeches, readings, and games. East Ward featured Clifford Empey as Y M M I A president, displays by Irene Mitchell and others, and refreshments of melons and grapes. West Ward included Taylor Parkinson as president, a welcome speech, trios, renditions, and grape fruit refreshments. Regular writer’s work begins next Tuesday night.
Deseret News reports Cedar City hosted the stake quarterly conference on September 17 and 18 with leaders from the Sunday School Union and Relief Society General Board in attendance. Most High Council members appeared. illness excused Counselor Fife. Attendance at sessions was unusually large, peaking at 722 in the Sunday School session.
The Tri-Community Chautauqua in Parowan Cedar and St George is postponed two weeks to October 13 14 15. Each community aims to outdo the others in performances and uses the extra time to improve preparations and advertising. Season tickets for all three nights are one dollar with optional reserved seats extra. Beaver’s withdrawal reduces entertainments and prices accordingly.
New classes form this week in Oral Expression under Mrs Pearl A Decker. Sessions meet weekly on Saturdays from Oct 1 to just before Christmas vacation. Fee is 3 60 per student with no makeup lessons. Readings and dialogues suit church and school events. a separate evening class for married people and adults runs weekly with same fee and prepaid arrangements. For inquiries call Mrs Decker at 1 3
