Thornton’s Grandson to Speak at Ward Meeting
Bshop Jess Guymon announces Elder T Gay Myers son of Mr and Mrs Thomas Myers Vegas and grandson of Mr Mrs Wm A Thornton will speak at the East Sacramento meeting next Sunday afternoon Sept 17 Myers recently began a 28 month mission in the Southern States and is homeward bound for the visit. Mrs Thornton and Legion Auxiliary plan a potluck at Five Mile to discuss upcoming projects including a Wat Pa Sale to raise funds for a hospital. Ida Burton and her daughter Tyan Johnson and Carlyle are in Salt Lake City Week for medical checks.

Russian Clothing Drive Nets 3583 Pounds Here
The American Legion and Legion Auxiliary collected 3583 pounds of second hand clothing for the Russian people. Included were 616 pounds of shoes. The items were sorted boxed by the groups and delivered to Cedar City freight depot with help from local scouts and Joseph of the Mercantile Co.

Potato Growers Prepair For Coming Harvest In Parowan
The Parowan Potato Growers Association is gearing up for harvest with thousands of burlap bags arriving. Bags weigh over 18 000 pounds and cost 4164 59, printed with the association name and grower details. About 60 to 70 percent of growers are covered. other growers order independently or sell pre dug. W Clair Rowley and Albert Murphy purchased 5000 ten pound bags for Las Vegas market. Harvest help may be tight again, but the valley gains extra diggers this year to lift potatoes from the ground.

Funeral services for victim of bull attack in Enterprise
Joseph E. Jones 69 of Enoch died from chest injuries after a jersey bull attacked him September 1 while driving cows from pasture. Native of Enoch, Jones lived in Enterprise since 1906, active in L D S church and former president of Enterprise Reservoir and Canal Co. Survived by Maude Jones, siblings, and several half brothers and sisters. Brother-in-law Morris Lyman attended services in Enterprise.

Horses arrive for next week's three day race meet
The general committee reports several horses have arrived to participate and many more will arrive early next week for the three day race meet on Thursday through Saturday. General chairman Clifton Halterman states the track and grounds are in good condition and ready, with sprinkling needed to prevent looseness. A Carnival company connected to the Livestock Show is expected for all three nights, along with three nights of dancing.

Simon Benson son of Mr and Mrs Phillip Benson of this city graduated from Pecos Army Air Field Pecos Texas last Friday with Class 44 H earning his wings and a 2nd Lieutenant commission in the U S Army Air Corps. He and his wife returned home Sunday and plan to visit Troy Idaho before he reports to Yuma Arizona Sept 20 for further pilot training.
