Monument to honor pioneer iron workers in Cedar City
A monument to the pioneer iron workers of Cedar City will be unveiled Monday morning in the park. George Albert Smith leads the Utah Trails and Landmarks Association and the Cedar City Chamber of Commerce in the dedication with Driggs of the National Oregon Trailer Association also expected. The plaque notes the first iron manufactured west of the Mississippi by Bergham Young and associates in 1851 2. Iron ore sourced from local mines, red iron bars forged by pioneers, and a 4 year, 1 009 000 dollar foundry project are cited. All interested are invited to attend.
