Mayor L Nelson Marsden issues proclamation designating Monday October 28 as Navy Day in cooperation with the Navy and public officials. The date honors Theodore Roosevelt on October 27 and notes October as Navy founding month. observance will be publicized in press and radio programs to educate and foster Navy awareness.
The mayor of Parowan City proclaims October 22 as Navy Day this year urging citizens to display the flag and reflect on the Navy’s role and importance. The proclamation, dated October 24, 1934, designates the observance and calls for appropriate activity and study.
Construction moves to install the flour mill with machinery arriving from Payson. The plant aims to start operations before month’s end, urging farmers to hold wheat locally for milling instead of sending it out.

Utah State Engineer T H Humpherys warns of a looming water shortage for 1935 36 urging conservation. He directs water commissioners to divert unused water close reservoirs and seal artesian wells many wasting 35000 wells could waste 150000 acre feet yearly surpassing irrigation needs. Publicity urged to publicize this order and ensure compliance within ten days of publication.
Announcement from Mrs LePreal Ward that an adult education class in applied art is conducted again this season at the school house. Interested persons are asked to contact Mrs Ward or attend the class held twice a week on Tuesday and Friday afternoons. The work continues from last season.
Mrs. Wilford Day and her daughter Mrs. Almon Orton are visiting Cedar City for several days with two other daughters Mrs. Durham Morris and Mrs. Wilson N. Lunt, enjoying time together in the area.
A Times notice calls for bids to replace wood stave pipe in the city’s hydro electric system with steel, as part of a PWA funded project. It outlines 3 825 feet of 26 inch steel and 2 725 feet of 26 inch seven gauge pipe, with 2 415 feet more possibly moving to steel. Bids open November 5. The city also reports progress on other water system improvements.
New officers of the Legion Auxiliary will be officially installed at a meeting next Thursday evening October 31 at 7 39 at Mrs Ione Orten home. District officers are expected to attend to install the officials elected at an outing in August: Alice B Lyman president Leona Lyman first vice president Alice H Dalton second vice president Cora Davenport secretary treasurer LaPreat Ward historian Olive Mitchell sergeant at arms Harriet Matheson and Alice Garner chaplains.
Faragonah Democrats nominated S. Walter Robb for town board president with J. B. Topham W. T. Davenport Ray Stones and J. Lowe Barton as other board nominees. Mrs Robb was elected associate chairwoman of the precinct and on the Democratic County committee. Republicans named Samuel Abbott for president with T. A. Robinson Asa Topham J. B. Robinson and Ernest Topham for other members.
John E. Jones and Frank E. Edgar of the Western Newspaper Union toured town on Friday. Jones suggested the State Press Association hold its summer outing here next year with Cedar Breaks lodge as headquarters for a two day event. The plan would bring publicity and benefit the local area. Carlyle Dalton and Rufus Bradshaw were assigned to trap predatory animals locally for a government agency with pay and fur ownership, under a committee including Clark Orton H. L. Adams and James Robinson.
A roll call conference of Red Cross chapter workers in Cedar City district will meet next Wednesday at the El Evalatte hotel starting with lunch at 12 15. The event aims to plan the annual Roll Call drive opening Armistice Day with leaders from Iron Kane Washington counties and a National Red Cross representative from San Francisco.
