Ann Hatch was selected as homecoming queen at Branch Agricultural College amid a five contestant field sponsored by campus groups. Due to bad weather, some events were rescheduled. alumni hosted the assembly, and previous royalty Bev Matheson reigned last year. Utah deer season opens tomorrow with hunts through October 2, drawing many visitors as local stores display festive decor.

Marian Decker of Wan High School Music Department won a chair in the first violin section of the All-State High School orchestra. The ensemble performed at the Utah Education Association session in the Tabernacle, Salt Lake City. Decker earned high marks from the state judging committee after her Cedar City audition and arrived in Salt Lake City for practice. She was named second chair, with Provo High School’s Lane chairing number one, as 22 Utah high schools and several Lake City schools gained membership in the orchestra.

The Parowan Literary Club met Wednesday at Mrs. Augusta Adams home with 14 members and one guest. They voted to collect clothing, soap, packaged food for Christmas bundles to send to England. Mrs. Maude Parcells led a lesson on Why Federate with aid from Georgia Mitchell, Anna Lyman, Jean Hendrickson, Hazel Pendleton, and Mary Topham in a skit. refreshments followed.

Parowan Stockman George Gunn Dies At 79
George Robert Gunn 79, a longtime Parowan stockman, died Friday night at the County Hospital from age related causes. He was born April 10, 1868, in Parowan and married Mary Ann Page in 1894. Survived by two daughters Melba Finnigan and Marian Angel of San Diego, a sister Lucy Hyatt, 17 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held in the Parowan West Ward L D S Chapel.
