City approves heating plant and bridge work for streets
At the October HY Council meeting the city ordered a new furnace plant from the Crane Company for the city building with an estimated total cost around 600 to 800 dollars and anticipated extra installation work. The Streets and Sidewalks committee was tasked to pursue a reinforced concrete bridge over the O M Lyman and F Whitney corner on Browan Lane road, with steel reinforcement recently obtained. Plans include a new foot bridge over the breakwater at Main Street and use of a city truck. a custodian will be assigned but vehicle may be shared. A stockpile arrangement allows storage in the State road shed with a waiver of damages. Also noted are local stray sheep control arrangements and the birth of a baby girl to Mr. and Mrs. Benson with word that their son Ree L Benson arrived in France after serving in Guinea.

Fishing waters close after October fifteenth in Utah
The Utah Fish and Game Commission reminds that after October 15 many popular fishing waters will close for the year. Water such as Logan River Strawberry Reservoir Blacksmith Fork River and the lower Provo River near Olmstead and Murdock Power plant will close or stay open only until the end of the deer hunt. Flue On Grade School Building Torn Down This Week
The high flue on the grade school building is being torn down this week due to unsafe conditions for children at play. In the wind last Saturday the cap on it loosened, fell onto iron steps to the auditorium rear, causing damage. nearby brickwork also shows signs of loosening. Custodian Silas T. Orton pushed the cap off on Sunday after it fell and sprained his ankle while descending the rear stairs, leaving him on crutches this week.

High School Aids Potato Harvest With Early Schedule
Principal L B Bennett announces a one week shift in the school timetable with junior high and high school starting at 2 30 a m to 12 30 pm to allow students to work in potato fields or other harvest tasks. Growers will pick up students between 1 and 1 30 pm. Pay is 4 cents per basket or 12 cents per hundred pounds, higher than last year, urging parental cooperation to ensure timely attendance and productive use of the holiday.
