Parowan Library One Of Twenty Two in Utah
Parowan joins twenty two Utah libraries funded by Andrew Carnegie and marks a debt of gratitude to the philanthropist. The Parowan library project began after James Clinton, then mayor, learned Carnegie funds could aid construction. A library board led the push, securing six thousand dollars after city pledges for maintenance. Architect Handall G. Cornerstone laid May 1, 1914, with a Sunday school contribution. the building opened that fall with Bell Connell Matheson as first librarian. Mud Springs Killing Justified Says Jury
A coroner ruled the Mud Springs shooting justifiable homicide after Mt Hed heard Mark Gudmundsen admit to shooting and killing Alex Norte near Mud Springs, twenty miles northwest of tere. The case drew on years of land disputes between the Adams family and Norte over water rights and a well on public range. Deputy sheriffs testified to North’s threats. Gudmundsen said he fired to deter Norte who pursued him with dogs and approached pistol range.
