Rams Announce 1953 54 Basketball Schedule

The Rams unveil a nine game practice schedule under Region Six rules for the 53 54 season with games at Gunnison Parowan and Cedar among others. Notable matchups include Parowan Cedar Springville Cyprus and Milford with tournaments in Parowan and Cedar and a March stretch ending at Beaver and Delta. Last week the inter class basketball tournament opened with freshman Roger Skougard scoring the first official point in the newly renovated gym. Early games were evenly matched as the competition continued, with results continued on the back page.

Snowstorm Delivers Ten Inches In Parowan Valley

Parowan Valley endured a heavy storm starting Tuesday noon, with rain turning to sleet and snow. Ten inches fell overnight, 11 inches at Forebay Canyon, adding 1.05 inches of moisture and a sharp temperature drop from the 70s to 11 degrees Thursday morning, following a prior Saturday low of 37.

Infant Son Of Local Couple Wins Contest

Mr and Mrs Glade Smith of Parowan announced their seven month old son Tracy J secured third place in a national baby contest. The General Products Company of Chicago sponsored the event with 6218 entrants judged on poise health beauty and expression from portraits. Kemp's Photo Studio Cedar City submitted the winning picture. Prize included 25 cash and a white leather bound baby record book with the child's name engraved in gold. There were 50 prizes total including 20 for first and 50 for second.

Ramette Club Dance a Huge Success at Parowan High

Parowan High's Ramette Club hosted the Girls Day Dance on Friday November 13 to raise funds for uniforms. Prizes went to best matched couple Charles Topham and Pat Urie. tallest girl La Reta Decker and shortest boy Tommy Draper. tallest boy Eric Clark and shortest girl La Reta Byten. Ramette officers for next year named: Marie Adams president, Maxine Rasmussen VP, Mary Carol Lemon secretary, LoRen Orton reporter, with Jackie Ward MaryEtta Stubbs and Joan Lamoreaux as cheerleaders.

Local Educators Attend U E A Leadership Meet

Iron County school staff attended the Utah Educational Association leadership school in Richfield last Thursday to Saturday. Marvin Graff of Fairview High School and Virginia Rosenberg of the elementary faculty participated. The theme was Communications, with sessions on improving ties between schools, parents, students, and educational groups. Guest speakers included Dr Willard E. Givens and Dr Karl Berns, NEA consultants.

Larry Heap Enlists In Air Corps

Larry George Heap, 19, son of Mrs Lelion B Heap of Parowan and the late Mr Heap, left Salt Lake City Saturday for Lackland Air Base in San Antonio Texas. He volunteered for U S Air Corps duty and was routed to the base. Heap graduated from Parowan High School last spring and had worked for Parry Sand and Gravel Company in Cedar City.

Parowan Couple Observes 52nd Wedding Anniversary

The 52nd wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Crawford, prominent Parowan residents, was celebrated with family gatherings. Hosts entertained at a Cedar City dinner Thursday. attendees included Emma Crawford Merle Crawford and others from Parowan and nearby towns. Calif Couple Begin Extended Vacation

Atty. and Mrs. Bartlet W. Dalton of Perris and Norwalk California left Parowan to start a six month journey through the South Southwest and East. They married October 16 in Blythe Arizona and will visit Utah, Delta Provo Pleasant Grove Salt Lake City and Price before touring Death Valley Texas Louisiana Florida and finally Washington and New York City. The trip follows Mr Dalton’s release as manager of the Church welfare ranch and will include work in the Mesa LDS Temple and their return to Southern California to resume his law practice.
