The Rams unveil a nine game practice schedule under Region Six rules for the 53 54 season with games at Gunnison Parowan and Cedar among others. Notable matchups include Parowan Cedar Springville Cyprus and Milford with tournaments in Parowan and Cedar and a March stretch ending at Beaver and Delta. Local figures include Alma Garret and W Kirk Daly guiding Cyprus.
Last week the inter class basketball tournament opened with freshman Roger Skougard scoring the first official point in the newly renovated gym. Early games were evenly matched as the competition continued, with results continued on the back page.
Parowan Valley endured a heavy storm starting Tuesday noon, with rain turning to sleet and snow. Ten inches fell overnight, 11 inches at Forebay Canyon, adding 1.05 inches of moisture and a sharp temperature drop from the 70s to 11 degrees Thursday morning, following a prior Saturday low of 37.

Mr and Mrs Glade Smith of Parowan announced their seven month old son Tracy J secured third place in a national baby contest. The General Products Company of Chicago sponsored the event with 6218 entrants judged on poise health beauty and expression from portraits. Kemp's Photo Studio Cedar City submitted the winning picture. Prize included 25 cash and a white leather bound baby record book with the child's name engraved in gold. There were 50 prizes total including 20 for first and 50 for second.
Parowan High's Ramette Club hosted the Girls Day Dance on Friday November 13 to raise funds for uniforms. Prizes went to best matched couple Charles Topham and Pat Urie. tallest girl La Reta Decker and shortest boy Tommy Draper. tallest boy Eric Clark and shortest girl La Reta Byten. Ramette officers for next year named: Marie Adams president, Maxine Rasmussen VP, Mary Carol Lemon secretary, LoRen Orton reporter, with Jackie Ward MaryEtta Stubbs and Joan Lamoreaux as cheerleaders.
Mrs. Jane Richards of Parowan announces the engagement of Nola Mae Mitchell to L Charles Palmer of Weed Heights Nevada. Nuptials set November 28 at the home of the bride's brother Kenneth Mitchell Weed Heights. The couple will reside temporarily after marriage.
Iron County school staff attended the Utah Educational Association leadership school in Richfield last Thursday to Saturday. Marvin Graff of Fairview High School and Virginia Rosenberg of the elementary faculty participated. The theme was Communications, with sessions on improving ties between schools, parents, students, and educational groups. Guest speakers included Dr Willard E. Givens and Dr Karl Berns, NEA consultants.
Larry George Heap, 19, son of Mrs Lelion B Heap of Parowan and the late Mr Heap, left Salt Lake City Saturday for Lackland Air Base in San Antonio Texas. He volunteered for U S Air Corps duty and was routed to the base. Heap graduated from Parowan High School last spring and had worked for Parry Sand and Gravel Company in Cedar City.
The 52nd wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Crawford, prominent Parowan residents, was celebrated with family gatherings. Hosts entertained at a Cedar City dinner Thursday. attendees included Emma Crawford Merle Crawford and others from Parowan and nearby towns. The couple married November 12, 1901 in St George and have eight children, five living, with deep LDS Church involvement noted for both.
Leghorn Italy West Point tradition honors Lt Freeman L Pendleton by naming his seven month old son Scott Freeman Pendleton as the class godson in Leghorn The Pendleton family roots trace to Parowan Utah and Kew Gardens New York with the baby born March 2 The 1952 graduating class presented the silver cup in Italy. Lt Pendleton serves as radio officer with the 21st Signal Company at Leghorn
Pvt. K. Clark Mitchell of Parowan arrives for his first furlough with Bishop and Mrs Ear. He trained at Fort Ord California and heads to Maryland for schooling on December 1. Pvt. Garth B. Whitney, also from Fort Ord, returns home to Parowan and Cedar City area relatives for leave. Rodney Kaminska, in a Quartermasters School in Germany since May, is listed as a Signal corps typist clerk with overseas service prior, his wife Lyia Stratton and their daughter Kristine split time between Cedar City and Parowan while awaiting homecoming.
Atty. and Mrs. Bartlet W. Dalton of Perris and Norwalk California left Parowan to start a six month journey through the South Southwest and East. They married October 16 in Blythe Arizona and will visit Utah, Delta Provo Pleasant Grove Salt Lake City and Price before touring Death Valley Texas Louisiana Florida and finally Washington and New York City. The trip follows Mr Dalton’s release as manager of the Church welfare ranch and will include work in the Mesa LDS Temple and their return to Southern California to resume his law practice.
The Parowon Stake quarterly conference over the weekend saw strong turnout at all sessions. Sunday announcements included releases of several stake missionaries and changes in stake leadership and youth offices amid the new system focusing on visiting nonmembers.
The Harvest Ball sponsored by Parowan Stake MIA will be held at Parowan High School gymnasium on Thanksgiving Thursday November 26. Boyd Mitchell's orchestra provides music. Proceeds fund the Parowan Stake Third Ward recreation hall building fund with ward credits for tickets sold. Hal Hitchell and Mrs Claude Orton lead arrangements with ward officers and teachers assisting. Public invited.
Civil defense issues and potential solutions form the focus of the Parowan Third Ward Sacrament meeting Sunday afternoon. Speakers include isl Christensen of Cedar City Iron County Civil Defense chairman and Bert Langford regional director of Church Welfare. The event aims to urge each family to attend as officials share messages from Church authorities and civil defense authorities. The meeting starts at 2 p.m.
Mrs. Rulan Dalton announces the Second Ward Annual Relief Society conference will be held during the regular Ward Sacrament meeting Sunday at noon. All Relief Society members are urged to attend with a special invitation extended to visiting teachers.
Former Parowan High School alumni from the falls of 1986 1946 and 1948 will receive confidential state wide questionnaires this week. The 80 questions cover marriage family employment schooling reasons for dropping out and school improvements. Principal Max S Dalley asks careful completion and return for shaping Utah high school policy and future changes.
Raynor and Jean Benson Kaminska of this city announce the birth of a daughter on Friday the 15th at Iron County Hospital weighing 7 pounds 11 ounces. Grandparents include Mr and Mrs James Alma Benson and Mr and Mrs Roland Holyoak.
A fine black haired boy arrived at the County Hospital Monday morning weighing 7 pounds 10 ounces. He has two sisters Carol Ann and Diana aged six and five. Paternal grandparents Mr and Mrs Clark Orton live in Parowan and grandparents Candie heard the news at their home in Niles Ohio.
