Hunters bag eight foot lion on autumn hunt

Old timer from New Harmony and guide from Hurricane Utah led a party in Kentucky to tree and shoot an eight foot lion. The chase stretched across the country near Castle and Onder Canyon with hounds treed and finally bayed or shot. The hunters also pursued bear elk and other game.

Armistice Day Oratorical Winner Named

Miss Beverly Orton daughter of Aly and Mrs Claud Orton won the Voenecan Legion Oratorical contest at Armistice Day. She is a junior at the local high school and spoke on Meet America. Finals opened by Tony Dalton and Jack Stevens noted a patron meeting sponsored by the Allawncan Legion Post 20.

New Sorority Phi Delta Zeta Formed at B A C H

The Inter-Sorority Council announced a charter approval for a new sorority Phi Delta Zeta at Branch Agricultural College of Utah Cedar City. Temporary officers named Mary Peterson Madeline Jones and Carol Abbott. Charter members listed with several Utah town origins. The sorority colors violet and white and violet flower adopted. Also federal approval to build a cafeteria under the Mead Act veterans program. Government surplus buildings from Topaz Utah to be moved and reerected on campus to serve 250 students.

Venice June Decker an 18 year old Parowan High graduate and Utah Parks Company employee was chosen to represent Iron County in the Centennial Queen contest finals in Salt Lake City on November 14. She is noted for her musical talent and athletic interests and has a notable pioneer lineage.

Beverly Matheson a close contestant for queen

Beverly Matheson daughter of Frank A and Miriam Burton Matheson was a close contestant for the Iron Cu Queen and Centennial Queen representative. She has an extensive lineage with ancestors arriving in Utah before 1869. Parowan Airport Licensed for Limited Use

A letter dated November 7, 1946, from State Director Joseph S. Bergin to Mayor E. Ray Lyman authorizes limited use of Parowan Airport. Bergin aims to encourage flight activity and gather data for future development, with a visit planned late November to assess improvements. The Parowan Flying Club expects a student plane, and a hangar will be provided for local planes.

Horace J. Christensen, manager of the Provo Utah field office, will be at the Parowan Times Building in Parowan at 2:30 PM on November 20, 1946. He will assist people over 65 who worked in covered employment to file retirement claims and accept survivor claims for deceased wage earners and World War II veterans' survivors.
