A bank stock payment plan faces hurdles as payments total 10 450 dollars and a November deadline looms. Attorn M Marsden heads the committee seeking authorization for a Salt Lake City bank and an stockholders meeting to confirm paid-up holders and proxies.
Old timer from New Harmony and guide from Hurricane Utah led a party in Kentucky to tree and shoot an eight foot lion. The chase stretched across the country near Castle and Onder Canyon with hounds treed and finally bayed or shot. The hunters also pursued bear elk and other game.
A draft notice from the Veterans Administration in Beaver Utah outlines that funds go to named beneficiaries or a surviving spouse if designated. It notes that proceeds may be taxed and subjected to creditors and costs, while life insurance proceeds are exempt. A Parowan court hearing on the matter is announced with contact hours.
The Purowan Chamber of Commerce announces a regular meeting on Monday November 1 at 8:00 PM in the Court House. Last year's members owe the 1947 membership due for another year. Paid-up members will be notified by postcard. All others are invited to join as the centennial year aims for greater civic involvement.
S/Sgt William E. Topham returns home on terminal leave after eighteen months in service including time in Japan with the 36th Evacuation Hospital under the 7th and 8th Armies. Paragonah Ward honors Gilbert Robinson at a social November 16 while 4 H Club celebrates achievement day November 15. A welcome home party for Topham is planned November 22. Also noted are visits, relocations, hospital discharge, and travel by local residents including John H Williamson, Ruben McBride, and David B Edwards.
Miss Beverly Orton daughter of Aly and Mrs Claud Orton won the Voenecan Legion Oratorical contest at Armistice Day. She is a junior at the local high school and spoke on Meet America. Finals opened by Tony Dalton and Jack Stevens noted a patron meeting sponsored by the Allawncan Legion Post 20.
The Inter-Sorority Council announced a charter approval for a new sorority Phi Delta Zeta at Branch Agricultural College of Utah Cedar City. Temporary officers named Mary Peterson Madeline Jones and Carol Abbott. Charter members listed with several Utah town origins. The sorority colors violet and white and violet flower adopted. Also federal approval to build a cafeteria under the Mead Act veterans program. Government surplus buildings from Topaz Utah to be moved and reerected on campus to serve 250 students.
Mr and Mrs Ross announce the birth of a son to their daughter and son in law Mr and Mrs Melvin Reeves who live in Cedar City. Mrs Reeves formerly of Parowan. Mrs Eva Bennett captain of the Elizabeth Camp of the Parowan Daughters of the Pioneers says the November meeting will be Monday evening at 8 o clock at the home of Mrs Grace Gurr. Mrs Lizzie W Adams will discuss Pioneer Fashions. Hardison Adams has returned home after discharge from the Army after nearly two years away. The year abroad was spent in Japan in the Maintenance division. Corporal T S Hardison is a son of Mr and Mrs Ancel J Adams of this City.
Venice June Decker an 18 year old Parowan High graduate and Utah Parks Company employee was chosen to represent Iron County in the Centennial Queen contest finals in Salt Lake City on November 14. She is noted for her musical talent and athletic interests and has a notable pioneer lineage.
Beverly Matheson daughter of Frank A and Miriam Burton Matheson was a close contestant for the Iron Cu Queen and Centennial Queen representative. She has an extensive lineage with ancestors arriving in Utah before 1869. Delineated lines include Adams and Burton families and Matheson forebears with several great and great-great grandparents listed. Judges included Mrs Amos Hatch Mrs Carl Mitchell and Mr Will Adams.
The District Sunday School Convention meets Sunday November 17 at 3 30 P M in Cedar City Second Ward Church with Alton H Merrill from Parowan Seminary as speaker. Supervisors urged to bring officers and teachers.
A letter dated November 7, 1946, from State Director Joseph S. Bergin to Mayor E. Ray Lyman authorizes limited use of Parowan Airport. Bergin aims to encourage flight activity and gather data for future development, with a visit planned late November to assess improvements. The Parowan Flying Club expects a student plane, and a hangar will be provided for local planes.
Horace J. Christensen, manager of the Provo Utah field office, will be at the Parowan Times Building in Parowan at 2:30 PM on November 20, 1946. He will assist people over 65 who worked in covered employment to file retirement claims and accept survivor claims for deceased wage earners and World War II veterans' survivors.
Mr and Mrs K Doyle Robinson of Paragonah rejoice over the arrival of a daughter. County Clerk John W Bently issued a marriage license to Albert Stevens of this City and Dora Holt of Enterprise Utah. Mr and Mrs Clarence Richards and Mrs Sarah Whitney plan to attend the wedding of Merton Richards and Alice Taylor in Salt Lake City at the Salt Lake Temple on Wednesday November 24. Mr Lloyd White of Summit and Miss La Priel Day of this City depart for Salt Lake City to be married at the Salt Lake Temple later this week.
