Parowan High School Band members and parents held a picnic at Vermillion Castle Forest Camp on Wednesday evening. Band Mothers prepared and served for about 100 attendees including students and families. Funeral services are held in El Monte California for Merton Whitney Richards who died Monday night at his home. Born April 24 1901 in Parowan he moved to California in 1942 with his family. Surviving are his widow Alice Richards two children and four grandchildren. Several local residents attended the funeral including Eva Bennett Kent Mitchell W Scott Mitchell Benson Haycock and S J Whitney.

Driggs an 1847 Utah pioneer and San Bernardino settler is listed on Salt Lake Citys Brigham Young Monument. he helped found the San Bernardino colony and later returned to Utah with his wife Sarah Rogere-Driggs after Johnston's Army. Minersville Reservoir Receives Walleyes
About half a million walleyed pike fry were planted in spring by the Department of Fish and Game. A first plant of 326000 went to Minersville Reservoir in Beaver County as an effort to establish walleyes in another state water. A second 270000 fry is at the Speck Avenue Hatchery for experimental feeding to raise them to a larger size before planting.

Fish Poisoning Oked For Panguiteh Lake
The Cut Department of Fish and Game approved a large scale trout eradication plan for Panguiteh Lake to begin mid August this year. Regulations allow liberal fishing rules prior to treatment with a 20 fish per day limit and a 10 trout daily common limit requiring wardens validation for excess catches. The lake will reopen for angling June 11 with tributaries opening May 28, and fingerling trout stocking planned about mid September to boost the fishery.
