County taxpayers are promised a substantial drop in the school levy to 10.7 mills, down from 12.2, enough to run schools without a new special levy. However county general levies may rise, offsetting the school savings, with Patowan City's valuation down about 312,000 and Cedar City valuations up 70 to 80 thousand dollars.
J C Jones chef at the Cedars Hotel in Cedar City was arraigned in Justice Rollo's court on a grand larceny charge. He was held on $2,000 bond pending a Friday preliminary hearing. The stolen watch and ring reportedly belonged to Lawrence Bracken and were traced to a party in the hotel basement. Officers also found six ty bottles of beer and considered civil action over hotel liquor possession.
The M I A Vaudeville show was postponed from Saturday to Monday due to weather and production issues. The Unequal Yoke received praise, with standout dancing by Carel Adams and Clayton Dalton and a beautiful trio performance. The cast may go on to Salt Lake City with strong prospects.
On Wednesday afternoon May 25 the Relief Societies of both wards joined Kanda for a successful social. The program featured a social service lesson by Lizzie W Ad reading by Arvilla Margden a duet by Ruby Orton and Cora Morten. Ice cream and punch were sold and a bazaar followed making the event entertaining and profitable.
A marriage license was issued by the Clerk's office during the week to Vivian Ashdown and Lote Hookins of Cedar City.
Fire broke out about six thirty Monday morning destroying the frame home of John S Mitchell in the town’s northeast. Mrs Mitchell woke to find the fire under rapid headway, furniture ruined, clothing lost, walls and roof heavily damaged, and insurance lapsed. The hose cart arrived quickly, community donations later raised a substantial amount to aid rebuilding.
Union Central Life Insurance Co. through attorneys C. W. Collins and H. C. Parcells filed a foreclosure suit in the District Court during the week against Heber Dalley Wilford H. Lawrence and his wife Wm. Allen and his wife and the Utah Wholesale Grocery Company. A separate action by David Bulloch against Sheriff Leigh seeks recovery of several bags of wool taken under execution in a Colvin judgment against Thomas Gulroth. The wool, claimed by David Bulloch, was believed to belong to Thomas Bulloch.
W I Mitchell urges city officials to establish a funded program for cemetery beautification and upkeep. He proposes a voluntary per lot assessment to cover a caretaker, water pipes, and hydrants for Memorial Day, noting last year’s neglect and the need for water access now.
Mr and Mrs W Clair Rowley Mr and Mrs Evan Bayles and Mr and Mrs Albert Adams were among the Farowan people who went down to attend the EB A Alumni Ball last Friday night.
A town guest, Mr Ray Lyman, spent yesterday in the area for business matters and a social visit with acquaintances. He paused to meet locals and discuss local affairs before departing.

Fae Decker and Mona Green depart for Bryce Canyon for summer work. Grant Thornton visits from Minersville. John R Robinson and Carlos Thornton were in Parowan on business. Hazel Clark Sorenson and husband from Southern California paid a brief visit. Mrs Sorenson, raised in Parowan, cherishes old ties as they tour Europe with relatives.
West Ward announces a big June 1 2 festival to fund ward maintenance. Events include sports Scout demos a play scene and a two day program with a circus parade auctions dances a grand festival ball and a special picture show with season tickets available.
Friends of William T. Green of Parowan learn of the marriage last Tuesday of his friend to Miss Iane Baldwin of Beaver. The wedding occurred in Richfield with the Baldwin parents present. The groom, a Parowan industrious young man, has worked for Columbia Steel and plans to reside in Provo with his bride.
Miss Mable Taylor daughter of Mr and Mrs Thomas Taylor of this city married Bernard Moroni Hunter of Cedar City. They will reside in Cedar City. The groom is son of Mr and Mrs James Hunter of the county metropolis. They were weekend guests in this city a week ago. The Times offers best wishes for happiness.
The Parowan stake quarter conference in Cedar City shifts the usual fast day services to next Sunday, following a conference held a week earlier. A program for the conference was not yet provided.
Mrs Geneveve Mitchel Jones of Cedar City spent several days this week visiting with her relatives here with her young daughters.
Mr and Mrs Stobert G Page of Salt Lake City formerly lived here and are visiting with relatives for a few days, bringing their party.
It reports Alvin A Benson and spouse of Lynndyl, formerly Parowan, as proud parents of twin daughters born days ago. William Marsden and wife depart for Salt Lake City for a visit. RK Fenton leaves for Green River and Utah points to buy horses. Barbara Adamie hosts a surprise Kensington social for friends on May 23 from 2 to 5 PM, with chatting sewing and lunch.
Mr and Mrs Ezra G Thornter and their daughter Liaurette and Jeasie, former Parowan residents, visited relatives in Paragonuah and Parowan during the first of the week.
Mr CG L Robinson of Paragonah returns home with Mrs Wa from Beaver where they spent the previous winter. Pendletaz is mentioned in relation to the return.
Miss Georgia Parcells, a past winter student at the B A C, has accepted a summer job with Peterson's Drug company. Mr and Mrs Albert Matheson welcome a baby boy born early this week. Mr and Mrs Harold Mitchell are due home from Safford, Arizona this week.
Mr. Millard Halterman of Mud Valley visited Parowan earlier this week as a business guest. Mrs. Oscar Hulet and her daughter Arvilla arrived from Summit on Sunday afternoon to attend the Keller Society Conference.
Mr Ted Dalton traveled to the Dells on Saturday to bring back his wife and son who had been visiting there for several days.
Mrs Darbara Adams and Nellie M Clark traveled to Paregonah on Sunday afternoon to attend Stake Relief Society business.
Mr. en Frey, who has been teaching this winter in northern Utah, is home again.
Ars Ella Robinson left on Monday marching to spend a week in Prevo, detailing travel plans and purpose.
Mrs Page, who came to visit her son Nr John Page, suffered a paralytic stroke days before her arrival and is expected to die from the effects of it.
Mr Ralph Jensen, who led Parowan High School music during 1922 23, will return this fall to head the department again. He has gained varied experience during his absence, likely enhancing his qualifications. New hires include Miss Louise Cruickshank for English and Dramatic Art and Miss Oleta Jex as English teacher.
Sunday May 22 featured Relief Society conferences in East and West wards with year in review style programs. East ward opened in the tabernacle with officers sustained, activities reviewed, solos and talks by board members and clergy. West ward presented reports on theology and social service, vocal and piano performances, and remarks by stake officers and others.
Last Friday afternoon a group of community ladies called on Mrs Mitchell to brighten her day. They spent two to three hours with her while she recuperates at home, and Mr Mitchell offered thanks for the thoughtful visit. Attending were Mrs Annie Gurr, Mrs Emily Lowder, Mrs Elizabeth Koyle, Mrs Madara Haltey mat, Mrs Sarah Whitney, Mrs Mary Alice Benson and Mrs Emily Dalton.
